I do not used fast fret, i feel it is best for roundwound strings on electric bass, but flatwounds don't tend to benefit from it. IMO of course. Honestly i don't even use it on electric bass, never saw the need.

Double Bass Time for a Dead Spiros Club

I do not used fast fret, i feel it is best for roundwound strings on electric bass, but flatwounds don't tend to benefit from it. IMO of course. Honestly i don't even use it on electric bass, never saw the need.
My weich set with a medium E I've had for a little over a year. Had them on my king ply, then 5 months ago I put them on my fully carved when I put the king up for sell. Haven't been to happy with them 
I miss the brightness. Was thinking of cleaning them up or replacing, but was going to wait to see if it was just the weather change. They sounded so good on my king!

Try cleaning them. I have the same setup on my plywood and they are nice and bright. My carved needs a little more tension so maybe your carved would be good with a full set of mediums?
I just did and it brought some life back.
My carved does have a 41 inch scale and the king had a 43. Maybe a full medium set would do the trick. I'll have to try it out.

Getting a 2nd bass. New bass will be picked up in 2 weeks. Owner had spiro mediums put on it back in 2015 but has not played them much (electric bassist who never got into upright). So I think they don't count as "dead". Also they will probably sound quite new.
1st bass is getting an extension thrown on it in August. this bass has spiros that are a Year old and sounding very VERY good. But that means I'll have to change my broken in and beautiful E for a brand new Long E
So the options are:
1) Kill new set on bass 2, throw new Long E on with year old ADG and wait for E to die down. Sell year old E string.
2) Transfer full year old set to bass 2, Use new ADG and long E on bass 1 and kill them all together. Sell new E string.
3) Sell year old set completely, buy brand new set of spiros and kill them on both basses.
4) Carrots.
Thoughts? Advice?

I might be on the minority here but I like the sound of new Spiro E and A on my bass. In fact, I wouldn't mind using a new E every six months.
I've heard that before. Some people will do that to keep them fresh. I find that after a few months the consistency in tone is nice string to string. Initially the G and D are too harsh but after 9 months they all feel and sound like a nice warm set. I threw a new E on my old set last month and didn't like it at all especially with the bow.
Sounds like you're very picky about consistency string to string. If you mix new and old strings there will be inconsistencies, sad to say it but I'd get a new set with long e for old bass and keep the strings coming with the new bass. Hopefully since both basses will have new strings you won't norice as much?
Ahhhhhh you're right. I don't think that one bass having newer strings than the other will annoy me that much, but it may be wise to just start new all around.
Well with two basses it would be so sweet to have one set up for the club gig scene and one for bowing etc., but I understand most of your gigs require a hybrid approach.
I'm going on three years with my Spiro weich 4/4's on my upton hybrid. So far so good. Broken in but still loads of Tone and no noticeable intonation issues - except for my own!
Still sitting on a new set of 3/4 Weichs - waiting for a good time for a setup and these new strings. Maybe next spring ......

That is the other possibility. I gotta get the other bass with me first and see. The other option is to set the hybrid up with spiros and the carved with an arco string or a hybrid string.
someone pray for me. 1 week of a new bass. Brand new spiros. Evan the last "new" set I put on was 4 months old. Stark E with Mittle ADG (feels even, mittle E was very light) and they are killing me. So much wahhh. Doesn't help that the fingerboard may need a sanding...or whatever you do to it. Pray that I have sweaty hands this summer.
Oh man...Didn't you recommend me (or someone) a way to make them old? I think it was olive oli of something like that?

yes and that helped a little. Getting used to a new bass as well. much brighter than my german carved from the 50's so the sound is brighter in general. I was just so happy with my year old set and now I have to start again. Not a good feeling.
That's a pain in the @ss. Well, I'm wishing you a lot of sweaty gigs (or practise sessions) 
Ah yes but I didn't sell that bass. I have my carved bass with year old Spiro mediums and sold my plywood with old Weich strings (not a fan) so I bought a new hybrid and had new strings put on.
Both haha. To be even more specific:
I have a german carved bass from 57 with year old spiro mediums that I love
I sold an old plywood with spiro lights on it
I bought a newish hybrid bass at uptons shop that came with gut strings on it and had them put a fresh set of spiro mediums on it cuz I didn't have any used ones lying around. I'm dealing with killing the strings on the hybrid.
This sounds weird to me. I liked how my Spirocores sounded when they were new, and this was coming from synthetic core strings. They are still sounding good ten months later, but I have no qualms about changing them when I feel they've become too dark. I guess I can't be in this club
