Tiny hotel room speaker cabinet?

If you're going to go to the trouble of getting a small cab for practice, I think you'd be a lot better served by getting a Phil Jones Cub amp (BG-100 or BG-110 or BG-120, listed from oldest to newest, from least powerful to most powerful, and from least costly to most costly). It's exactly the same size as the C2 cab, but with the amp built in. Leave the GK MB-200 in the car or in the case. It's two less things (amp & speaker cable) to fiddle with.

Why anyone would spend the coin, not to mention the bulk and weight of a PJB combo/cab+amp, over a headphone amp with an aux in to use as a travel unit for motel rooms, simply staggers me.

I use an original Link Removed, but Fender make the Mustang, and Positive grid make the RIFF (assumes you have a laptop with you) and I'm sure a cursory search will bring up other alternatives.

Assume for a moment that the OP's desire/need to do small, low volume group practices is not limited to having those practice sessions happen only in motel rooms.

Another Phil Jones Bass Compact 2 vote. I have 3 of them and they are great little cabs if you have the right needs/expectations from them. OP's need seems to fit.

Headphones! Get a good set and some type of digital interface and you're all set. As a bass player, if I heard someone playing in another room, I would be seriously unhappy.

Hey peeps...anyone know of a small speaker cab that I could use with a GK MB200 just to go over tunes (along with an iphone via the aux in)?
I currently use an ads L300C speaker but it's a bit bulky and heavy for my travel bag.
It can even handle a "B" string at low level but that's fine for a hotel room.

What's the size and weight of your current cab?

the ADS L300C is 9*6*6 inches, ou 22.86*15.24*15.24 cm. No idea of the weight (other than one seller describing it as "heavy").

The smallest "serious" cabs I'm aware of are the Soundelirium 6micro and the GSS 06BC200.
The former is 24*24*28 cm, 4.5 kgs; the latter 28*24*31 cm, 6.5 kgs.
So...no dice?
The Traynor Small Block SB106 is 22.9*24.2*31.75 cm and 6.8 kgs, and also comes with a head.

The Blackstar Fly103 is 17*12.6*10.2 cm and weighs 0.898 kgs. However, it is also 3 watts and 4 ohms, i.e. a disaster waiting to happen, if coupled with the MB200.

I don't know of anything in between.

Because when I am in a hotel, I don't want to hear anything going on in any other room. Especially when I know there are perfectly acceptable ways to play that are nearly silent.

For going over tunes, I find a nice pair of sealed headphones are better than any small speaker for hearing details.

Another +1 for Headphones. I use a Darkglass Element myself. Another option that people seem to like is the Broughton Messenger.

^^^^This!^^^- the Messenger is incredible. You can feed it with your entire board, and the Aux input and headphone input have separate volume controls. If unavailable to you, the Aguilar AG looks to accomplish the same, and the two are similarly priced.

This post made me laugh. When we were on the road and going from a notel motel, I used a Pignose to noodle on in my room. I still have that upstairs but haven't even plugged it in forever. Forgot I even had it till now. Im still grinning.

Thanx for all the input. I should have mentioned that the entire band meets up in a hotel room occasionally to go over tunes. Low volume of course but we can never hear the bass. My current set up works great but the speaker cab is too heavy for my bag. It's made out of cast aluminum I think.
I was using one side of the iloud micro monitor with the irig at one point but it suddenly stopped working.

Why doesn't the band just get one of those Jam Hub things(or whatever the modern equivalent is)? Everybody plugged in, headphones on, no pissed off next door guests, no pissed off management. Fits in a bag.

I did a lot of learning new stuff in motel rooms using a PJB Bighead and headphones, with my iPhone plugged in to play along with. I don't think you will get much love from staff or next door neighbors using an amp and cabinet in hotels/motels.

I just use my Mesa WD-800 using the effects return for the media and the headphone out with ear buds.

I run my old Zoom B1xon pedal into a Flip all the time.
