Tired, annoying phrases

I hate it when they say that something has "gone viral", as if a virus is a good thing.

While I'm sure that the phrase refers to the way something spreads, there have been good viruses. Cowpox for one, lead to the vaccination for small pox.

"You have to earn my respect" bugs me every time I hear it. I respect everyone initially until you LOSE my respect. I mean how does a baby, dog or nature "earn" respect? :rollno:

Agreed, 100%

There is a "special" type of respect that I give people who have accomplished great things or are pillars of morality or whatever, but I generally give everyone I come across a general amount of respect unless they give me a reason not to. I like to think of it as "Not being a douchebag."

I didn't read this whole thread, but there's a few phrases and words I hate. I hate it when people say "you know what I mean?" after every sentence. Invariably, I haven't a clue what they mean.

And the word "like" is surely the single most overused word in the English language at present. Like, you know when people are like talking, and it's like they can't like say more than like 4 words without like saying the word like. Like it might just be me, but like I really like hate that. It's like sooooooo, well, like annoying. ("sooooo" is NOT a word either). That's not even that exaggerated - I hear people talk like that all the time.

The other thing I hate is when people chop and change between pronouns. "We were just sitting outside, and suddenly there was this explosion and you just didn't know what to think. You thought I'm going to die, and then we were running, and you couldn't see anything. We were so scared you could see all these flames, but you didn't know what was happening...". "I" or "we" if one is talking about themselves, please!! You really hate that, don't I think? :)
