The original free-to-anyone TL-606 plans had a lower box tuning available via partially blocking the port. To those of you who have used TL-606 clones, all without this feature as far as I know, was it the higher or lower frequency that the clone manufacturer implemented?

TL-606 cabs what else besides EV speakers will work?

Roger that! Used to be one across the street at a friend's jam space, but it's long gone.
Back in the Eighties I had four such cabinets that I installed JBL K120s in. They were wonderful for bass crossed over into a Pair of K145s. My guitar player bought them from me and happily used them for his guitar.
I'll add to the chorus that cites personal experience with the Kappalites. I gigged with a pair of TL606 cabs loaded with the 3015s for several years in multiple bands playing blues, 70s-90s rock, and country, and they were great. How they compare to the original drivers I'm not sure, though. But they worked very well for me with the 3015s.

One driver I like that has a good compromise between xmax, power handling and mid extension is the Oberton 15MB500 that I mentioned before. Although it extends up to 4khz it doesn't have the rising response the EV 15L has, and, a higher xmax will result in a totally different sound when pushed. I can push the 15MB500 with a 800watt power amp and the volume will just increase without changing the way it sounds, whereas the EV 15L will enter harmonic distortion territory when pushed, giving it a unique sound. It's comparing apples to oranges

I've had my two since 83. Perfect around the house and I always found them the best for power to size/weight ratio. I was thinking of looking for some new neo 15's.
I bought the Rumble 500 head earlier this year and have done a bunch of gigs with it, initially with the matching pair of 2x10 cabs and later also with the Orange 1x15 by itself. The Rumble 2x10s are great as a pair but left me a bit wanting on their own. The Orange is great when I only have room for one cab and still need a ton of volume. I run it pretty hard with the amp at noon on the master being pushed through the front end with an Aguilar Tone Hammer DI and TLC Compressor, and the cab and the head hasn’t broken a sweat. I also picked up an Ampeg 8x10 recently and the Rumble does a great job with it, too! That said, the Bassman hybrids look great and probably have the sound I get with my Aguilar pedals built in based on demos I’ve watched.
i'm still running the mesa d180 with the two oranges for shows with varying levels of overdrive depending on the gig, i can get really loud, but it's not gonna be too clean

Funny you should mention this.
I just spent a few days A/B'ing between the Berg, B115M, the NeoX, and TL606 (behind Berg cabinet)
With a 60' P bass and a Fender Pro 800 amp, SVT, and 800 Fusion, the B115 sounds awesome but it can't go loud.
The Neo X is really close, goes loud, and is lightweight.
I nearly sold the EV a few times but nobody would give me $100 for it!!
