To Ampeg or Not to Ampeg......

Alright so I am having a dilemma, not really but I am trying to figure out what I want to do.......Alright so my main setup is my ampeg svt-4pro, sansamp, svt-410HE and svt-15e. The thing is there is a problem with the 1/4'' graphic eq/mute output and it's causing my preamp to mute intermittently, so what I have been doing is running my sansamp right into the power amp in, and just the 4-pro as a power amp. Its a big heavy power amp, and I know I can repair it, but either way I love the tone from my sansamp. So my buddy works at GC, and he said he could give me the acoustic b600h and the 8x10 matching acoustic cab for just trading in my 2 ampeg cabs, then I could just run the sansamp into that amp, and have an 8x10 :) and still have the ampeg with all the rack gear, which I probably will sell. So the fellow tb'ers should I trade 2 used (non MIA) ampeg cabs for the acoustic stack, or should I keep the ampeg cabs, and worry about the money it will cost to bring it to a tech? I like having the idea of one cab as well. I just figure the ampeg to me is just a power amp rendering the rest of the features and tubes useless to my needs. What would you do and why?

Yeah, this could be just a loose TRS 1/4" in the back causing that short out issue. The best thing is to bench your amp. Trading older USA Ampeg stuff (not sure if yours is USA built but there is a chance its older) out for Asia amps sounds no good to me.

Also, 8x10`s are a pain in the @$$ to haul around and won`t fit in many vehicles. I`d honestly take the Ampeg to a tech. Also Ampeg>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>(x1,000,000) over Acoustic. That`s not to say Acoustic doesn`t have some decent products, but you`d be selling yourself very, very short.

It is USA made, have any of you ever had a "tune up" on an amp, have an idea what it costs, I just don't want to have to break the bank. Yea I heard 8x10's were a pain to haul around, but I figured I might be getting more power out of the 8x10 & pushing more air than my setup. Well it seems like the acoustic is down for the count here...

i think trading down to a clearly inferior unit is more money down the drain than getting your amp fixed. you'll just sell the acoustic stuff at a huge loss later on. might only be a bench charge to fix it. doesn't sound serious.

I wish somebody would buy my 410HLF so I can get another AMPEG 810. It's sat at the music store for a couple months.

The Acoustic 810 and the B600H are nice gear for somebody who doesn't already have a 4PRO and AMPEG cabs. There is no financial benefit to trading down for the Acoustics which are half the gear.

Ampeg FTW on this one.

My suggestion would be to get the 4 fixed, and try to find a cheap 410HLF. I have yet to hear a ampeg cabinet that sounds as good as the 410HLF, and they are all over craigslist around here.

Thats my suggestion....

++1!!!

..indeed the 410HLF sounds great with the rackmountable hybrid heads!

....even with the all-tube's....just cut the bass some.

First: I WOULD NOT GO WITH THE ACOUSTIC PRODUCTS. If you are into Acoustic (as am I) then go with either the vintage Acoustic equipment or wait until the new USA Acoustic gear becomes available. None of this entry level GC stuff. I recently saw one of the 8X10s over at the local GC. They were selling it for $299. Why? The casters had completely went through the tolex/particle board and left 2 gaping holes.

second: Before you do anything with your amp, I would suggest getting it checked out. One never knows! It might be something simple and inexpensive....

At any rate - good luck!!
