To netflix or not to netflix?

Yes. But it depends on what you are expecting from it.
If you're going the DVD route, expect 1st run new releases to have a wait, unless you queue up way ahead of time and priority your list. But the selection, on the whole, is stellar.
If you go streaming only, do not expect to see a lot of new releases of the A-list variety. If you like the occasional newer Hollywood blockbuster peppered with a ton of older / past fave / underground flicks, lots of indie movies, B horror, great documentaries, and foreign films, then by all means.

If you want to watch more recent TV series you may be sorely disappointed (I was). It was annoying having to pay for a service where I really wasn't getting all that I thought I was paying for. However, if you're a movie person, it's fantastic.
My family and I have been enjoying Netflix since early this year. I just wish that there was more available in streaming format instead of the DVDs. But, that should get better with time.
We dumped DTV for Netflix. I seriously dislike "standard" network or similar television. I prefer to choose my own brainwashing material.
We use a "bought-on-Friday-after-Thanksgiving-Day-sale" SONY PS-3 to get the streaming stuff via wireless from our modem to the TV room. Works fine and we're on "slow" DSL.
Cheaper, no commercials, tons of stuff AND BASS VIDEOS.
I've gone through DVDs with or about Entwistle, Martin Turner, Lemmy as well as production reviews of classic albums with the artists. They also have a number of "teaching" DVD's of which I've not received any yet. Told wifey I need to learn how to play properly after 45+ years at it.

It'll get better the day the industry stops to realize that physical media is not long for this world. Blu Ray, the youngest of formats, is already on death's door. Sales are down all over the place and something has to give. Most studios do not want to concede this, and offer their wares to the minimal profit / multiple view streaming of Netflix business model and demand more of a cut so until either they lower their expected take, Netflix raises their rate to pay them more, or the buying populace flat-out stops buying physical media altogether, the studios will not sign on their catalogues. Hell, Netflix lost Starz half a year ago, that has been brutal to their offerings through streaming.

Netflix may be far from perfect, but I get great value from it. $8/month for streaming only, and I watch maybe 16 shows a month, so that's like renting DVD's at 50 cents a pop, and they are delivered the very instant I want them.
i say meh. i do find stuff to stream thru the xbox, but i have to sort thru so much crap i'll never watch that sometimes i just give up and come here
. there's also a fxxkton of kids stuff to sort thru in some categories, which can be annoying. also the "if you like 'xyz' movie, then try 'zyx' " choices are laughable sometimes. i don't go to the website, ever, so maybe some of these things i don't like about it can be changed thru preference settings and such. my kids go apeshyte with tv shows and movies on there, so we keep it. like i said, i'm kinda "meh" overall. i loved it for about two months, until i burned thru everything i was interested in seeing, so the trial is a good idea. then you can decide for yourself if the dough will be worth it. but 10 bucks a month......quarters in the couch kind of expense. at 40 bucks a month i'd say no.

My roommate had Netflix last year, and I felt like after the course of that school year I had seen basically everything there was worth seeing in their selection. Just my opinion.
I was very sad when they started charging for both dvd and streaming. Their dvd catalog is very deep and is A. Mazing, and their streaming is getting pretty good finally.
I don't have Netflix or cable at my own place, but my father has only the most very barebones cable and Netflix at his place. Between having Netflix streaming and a Roku box at my father's, I haven't missed cable one iota whenever I want to watch something.
I wish I had access to the US Netflix library (there are ways, the successful ones you need to pay for it seems).
Either way, I like it, and it gets used. It isn't just for films either, it has a lot of TV shows on it too.

streaming is lackluster, dvds are a long wait unless you wanna watch something that came out 6-9 months ago
Never found the streaming to be lackluster here, certainly better than the other streaming options I'd look at.
Not to mention, lots of stuff in HD. Even with my not-so-great broadband it streams unbroken, no more than a couple seconds loading right at the start and the quality remains consistent as long as I'm not downloading/using the bandwidth.
Not sure how seperate Netflix UK is to the US version (though it is newer over here and has a smaller library).

I have netflix and HULU, The kids really like netflix, they have a lot of their cartoon shows on there, we stream hulu and NF on our xbox in the living room, and with our roku box in my bedroom. I like Hulu better because it has a lot of my weekly shows I watch, and if you miss one, it will be on hulu the next day..hell we canceled our cable, with NF and hulu we pay 14 bucks all together..NF is not that great IMO, even a movie as old as good fellas is not on there, but you can always find something to watch, and for 7 bucks a month to stream it is a steal!
