Oddly enough, this thread is the first time I've ever read that (or my mind autocorrected it when I did!). And I'm on the internet looking at gear plenty!

That said, it really doesn't matter if it bothers me or not.... language changes over time, same as it always was. Not much use in whining about it. I just heard my almost 11 year old just say "Slay" and I momentarily thought she'd found my metal records but no.... she just thought something looked good

If somebody wants to knowingly misspell "tone" as "toan" for fun, it doesn't bother me.

It's the ubiquitous grocer's apostrophes (and opposites), their/there/they're confusions, spellcheck and speech-to-text errors that get posted because people can't be bothered to reread what they just wrote before posting... writing 65' when they mean '65... 34' when they mean 34"... ellipses instead of commas to make it look like they're not chaining comma splices together when they absolutely are... that all bothers me.

"Toan" is just cute, nonharmful. People will get tired of doing it and move on to something else that annoys you instead.

It bothers the crap out me. I hate illiteracy; I especially hate deliberate illiteracy.

As a old-ish fart, I lament the degredation of the English language.

“I graduated from college” has been replaced with “I graduated college”. People don’t know when to use I or me, or the difference between its and it’s. I have blamed lazy high school students who learned slag because it was cool and didn’t know it was wrong, and then grew into English teachers who allowed the same lazy habits to continue.

But then, when I read stuff from old (e.g. the Declaration of Independence, King James Bible) I struggle to understand it due to the wording. I realize the erosion has been going on far longer than I have thought. Educated people from ages past seem to be much better than the same folks today. Compared to them I’m an idiot and three generations from now they’ll be idiots compared to us. Eventually I figure people will simply point and grunt.

But as long as we can count to 4, we should be good.
