Double Bass Tom Harrell, Anyone?

Great Trumpet Player. Love his Big Band Stuff. Even some of his older music like the band he had with Sam Jones. But his modern writing is really nice. A great writer and musician.
Glad I am hearing about him in talkbass. Hope he gets others to listen to his music.

Yeah. It's not my normal thing, but I make an exception for Tom Harrell. A trumpet player friend of mine is really into him and he's had me playing his tunes over the years. I saw him in NY this year. He had a great band.

He definitely has his own voice and composes in a signature way. Good stuff.

I played "Moon Alley" at a workshop and I thought it was such a beatiful tune I ought to check out the album it came from - I love it and listen to it a lot and have checked out a few more since - I'll look out for the Art of Rhythm!! :)

Who are the other players on it?

I've been knowing Tom and his wife Angela for about 10 years. I did a couple of tours back around 1997-98 with an italian 5tet where Tom was the special guest. I had such nice memories from then, he's a great musician and a great person, very shy but with so much to give. Recently I had the big luck to record 4 tracks with him in a studio, for a Cd coming out next fall. Once again, he played beautifully, with a gorgeous tone and deep heart ! Great Tom !

Whole bunch of people.... Ugonna Okegwo, David Finck, and Andy Gonzalez on basses. Plus Dewey Redman, Greg Tardy, Duduka Da Fonseca, Mike Stern, and some really beautiful playing from Romero Lubambo.

My friend Sean Lyons plays tenor with Tom sometimes when he's in NY. He's very fond of him.
