Has anyone mentioned Kentucky rain?
I read that Tommy Cogbill was also a good Jazz guitarist. I wonder if his guitar background helped him think out of the box on bass?
He played guitar on Aretha's "Think" when Jerry Jemmott took over the bass for the session.
Cogbill on bass:
Cogbill’s tone is unmistakable. P bass through a B-15 (?).
There is a book by Roben Jones called “Memphis Boys: The Story of American Studios” that is a must read and a tremendous source of information about Cogbill and the heyday of American Sound Studio.
Tommy absolutely going off on the tag of this with the great Reggie Young.
That is a great, great album!
I got the book two days ago and while reading have listened again to lots of stuff Cogbill played on, King Curtis, Aretha, Dusty In Memphis, etc. It's a great read and listening to the tracks with headphones and focusing on the rhythm section is a revelation. A magnificent player.
