I also liked the Donny Hathaway transcription...all these years & never knew that tune was played (by Hathaway) with a Fender Piano Bass. Man!

I was lucky enough to assist on a week of sessions Tommy was producing a few years ago. Truly a brilliant and gifted individual. The guy really gets "inside" the song.

Also cool: answering the phone when Stevie Wonder calls the studio looking for Tommy.

Resurfacing this old thread to praise Tommy Sims bass playing, first noticed his great bass part on a 90’s radio pop hit (House of Love, Amy Grant & Vince Gill) which I just heard again in 2025 out of the blue… still killer bass playing 30 years later I have seen his name on this and that over the years, I always admire his skills as a bassist when I hear him on a track. Always plays something great for the song and brings a little extra to it. Uber pro.
