preamp, with tone and volume knobs on the bass. There are
a number of companies who can do this for "performance"
oriented musicians. The problem that these jokers are joking
about is, almost anyone who is a serious upright player would
have a hard time carving up a nice bass to put electronics in
that may not be the sound you're after in the end. Also, your
sonic taste may change over time. Also, its stupid to ruin a
nice bass for such a small amount of convenience. But if you
are talking strickly from a performance standpoint, it can be
and is done. You can get much more info (and less ribbing) on
a rockabilly bass site. But the respect factor for doing this to
a bass is pretty low in general.
