Tone much worse in drop C# - help!

Get the Elixir low B strings and ditch the G strings you have if you bought that many sets. Widen the nut or replace it, and set up the bass for the new string tension. This should get you going. Drop C# is well within the range of a standard tuned 4 string so this should work fine.

This is what I'm leaning towards. If it works it'll be mint.

I'll try an action raise anyway but I'll order the extra string and see how I go!

A comment: it is not wise to tune and detune the intrument . the neck will warp eventually

Maybe it is . But he doesn't speak about storing, but instead about constantly changing tunings. I don't know a lot but this doesnt seem like a good idea to me for the long term

For anyone bothered - an update.

So I put the Elixir B on. That meant 45-65-85-125. This works reasonably well though I'd probably up the guage of the top three strings a hair.

I also tried combining the strings 65-85-105-125. This works great for tuning the 4 string to BEAD. But for drop C# tuning the overall tension is too high and unplayable. Strings are too big too. The top three strings also lose a lot of tone is they are too tight to breathe, or at least that's what it feels like.

Conclusion? I just wish Elixir did a heavy four guage set 55-115 or something. But they don't.
