One thing I will say is that I play differently on every bass I own. Having several basses is a great way to help with your creativity. If you're jamming on one bass and not coming up with something you like, try a different bass. You'll play it differently because it feels and sounds different and each bass lends itself to different ways of playing. I tend to come up with cool slap lines on my Jazz, nice fingerstyle passages on my Sei fretted, tricky pickstyle riffs on the Spector and nice melodic stuff on the fretless Sei. Then you transfer what you came up with on one bass over to another for yet another different sound!
