Too much tension?

Probably these:

OP, if you want to tune in E, get these:

Yes, I can see now that EB actually do such fat sets of four. :wideyed: Never heard of anything like it before. Most people think .110" is too much for E on 34".

Edit: Maybe they are for tuning down though...
Was actually my bad. They are the 5 string sets that I posted. I didn’t realise EB did a 4 string 65-130 set of rounds specifically for down tuning as mentioned by HelpImaRock a few posts back.

It took me many years before i could call myself "good". I know im not great, but it depends doesnt it? There are probably rock stars that cant play some things i can, and vice versa. That made me feel better.

I actually think .130 works better as an E than it ever has for me as B on 34” scale basses. Sure, the tension is in the high 50’s but that’s nothing too extreme. An A and D 085 and 065 tuned up a 4th are where things get crazy tense. In the 80’s of lbf.
I have a bass at the moment tuned EADG with 130 85 65 45 rounds. It’s very versatile because you can flip things down to BEAD ( provided the nut slot is already modded) and have a really light EAD or DGCF comfortably or go all 5ths CGDA for some break out of the doldrums kind of stuff.
P.s there is a member on TB who tunes EADG with crazy ass gauges like the EB 65-130. Can’t recall his user name. I was astounded when he said tensions in the 80’s were no issue with his fingers or his bass. I’m not reccomending such a practice, but it isn’t unheard of. Wish I could recall his name

Not sure what kind of bass has a nut that's cut for strings like that and would expect they would not fit a normal 4 string bass without needing the nut to be re-cut. In addition, to use strings like that and have a "normal" setup with approx .011-.012 neck relief would also seem problematic for tension on the truss rod. Without knowing what bass this is (can't see the pics) would not advise using those strings without having a qualified tech do the setup or advise against it.

Hello everyone, this is my first post here, I've been playing bass for about 2 years at church, (been playing guitar for like 8) and I changed my strings the other day just for someone to comment that by putting 65-130 gauge strings on, I was putting way too much tension on the bass. Just wondering if this is something I should be worried about or not, it seems as though the action has gotten a little higher as well.View attachment 7398835
I run 50-110 LaBella flats on an SX P bass just fine. I don't know if I would go heavier unless I was tuning down. But whatever works for you 🤙
