Someone asked about light means of amplification, this has been going for two pages and no one has mentioned barefaced yet?
Their one10 weighs in at 15lbs and easily takes on most other 112 cabs in terms of bass and loudness.
Or if you want to be on the safe side, but cash out a little more, the Super Midget comes at 21lbs and will take on anything you'd usually bring a 212 cabinet.

I don't see too much gain from an amp like the elf. My Tonehammer 500 fits into my bass bag and is so light I can not tell the difference when the bag is strapped to my back. I simply don't need a head that's even smaller and/or lighter. Many brands offer those car stereo sized class D heads that are less than 4lbs and a comfortable one hand carry.

The One10 is close to the ultimate in light weight portability plus still very good tone. I also run a TH500 and One10 and appreciated it yesterday when my haul in at Church suddenly got three times as far due to another event.

The OP stated that their maximum dollar for everything is $700. That includes head and cab. To be sacrilegious here, has anyone suggested one of the fine new combos that are so light and easy to carry, like Gallien Krueger, Fender Rumble, Ampeg, Peavey, etc.?

What frequency is the 102db measurement at? If it's 1 KHz, that's the sensitivity of the horn, not the entire cabinet. At the frequencies we're interested in, I would be surprised if it did 98 db 1W@1m @ 100Hz, considering it's a direct radiator speaker.

Yes, paired the Elf here with a PJB Cab 27 as a small room alternative to the PJB BG-400 and C4. The pairing lets me appreciate what the Elf brings to the table. My inclination is to add a second Cab 27 at some point. That's strictly not necessary for me at the moment.

Part of the reason I chose the Cab 27 is my experience with the Elf and C4. The Cab 27 feels a better match to me, and permits me to dedicate the C4 for use with the BG-400. Another part of my reasoning is the form factor of the Cab 27 suits my needs right now. None of which is to say there won't be a Trace Elliot 1x10 sometime ... but that's not in the "soon" column :)

I bought that rig from SW a few years back. I had just picked up a bass for the first time in 30 years. I returned it because the fan noise was loud. Maybe no problem for live use, but for low volume home practice it wasn’t for me.

Good to know. I have a spare cab and if I want the Ampeg sound, maybe a PF-350 is a better choice. I don't like fan noise at home. That's why I love the GK's, they are absolutely quiet.

I've got one of those cabs I run as a practice rig with one of my MB500 heads. Those cabs are phenomenal. Shame they can't really "scale up" - my gigs are very loud and they don't do that.

If I were working a restaurant or some similar super-quiet gig I would not hesitate to use it. One of the most underrated small cabs out there.

I run a Darkglass X7 or a Strymon Iridium into a Tech21 Power Engine Deuce Deluxe. That Tech21 is really for at home play but I can take it out if I really need to. So far, hadn't needed to. My Darkglass or Strymon is a couple of pounds tops and fits in my guitar/bass case. These days, it does save my left shoulder and elbow but, even without that, I'd still do it. It's awesome going from the guy with THE HEAVIEST CRAP IN THE BAND to at least the second lightest and portable. :)

@arbiterusa Eden makes an EX112 and a pair of those I believe could cover most loud band situations with your MB500. I've played with some very loud bands last year with my 2 x EX110's and I had no problem hearing my bass--without FOH. I can't stress enough how powerful and deep a pair of the EX110 cabs are when coupled together running at 4 ohms. So in response, yes these are scale-able cabinets, at least enough for me.

For your consideration-- the EX112-- use a pair of these with your MB500 and I guarantee that in most all situations you won't need for volume. I also would mention that one EX112 and the MB500 would be a very potent little stack.

The Eden EX112 either 4 ohm or 8 ohm:
