Too old to take a chance

I haven't played through that cab, but the power-handling (200 Watts) seems like it would match well (bear in mind, as Stumbo mentions, that it's an 8 Ohm cab).

The Invalid Link Removed, though, contains a review from someone using it with an Elf head:

This is one of the best bass cabs I’ve owned, the clarity even on the low b string is amazing, paired with my trace Elliot elf amp my playing has improved remarkably because of the transparency of the cab it allows me to hear more nuanced tones and forces me to play more deliberate and clean, the lows are nice and round whilst the mids are well balanced and punchy and you get just enough highs to round off the sound, all this with my amp set flat and a slight bass boost on the bass.
I didn't see an efficiency spec for the cab, but wouldn't expect it to be super-loud. Being 8 Ohms, you could hook up a second C27 to the Elf for a mini-stack, though.

Do you have either the head or the cab already? The Elf looks like it will work alright with the cabs, but there are some other, not-quite-as-micro (but still small) heads, like the GK MB200 and the Markbass Nano 300, that you might consider as well. There are probably others. (Not to sway you from the Trace -- just mentioning options.)

Good luck!

The C27 is a 29lb, 2x7, 200w, 8 ohm cab. The elf is a 200w head @ 4 ohms so you'll get about 130w @ 8 ohms.

How it works for you depends on what size of venues you work in.

When I go out it's mostly small coffee shops with a guitarist and a drum machine.
I have been using an
Ashdown EVO C112 Rootmaster 500 watt but it's just to much. Heavy and awkward for my surgically adjusted back.

Sounds like this rig could work for me. I haven't purchased either yet. Suppose I could use the cab as an extension with my EVO too.

That cabinet may or my not work for you. One of the awkward things about cabinets is that high efficiency and small size mean you will give up low end extension - it's the Physics of the thing, no real way around it. I'd suggest you try the thing before you buy, so you can assess if it's OK for your use.

And yeah, 122 dB at 1 watt, 1 meter can't be the number - that's beyond theoretically possible.

The nice thing about Revsound is that you can call the builder, David Luke, directly, and discuss what you need.

Can't haul big heavy stuff around anymore. So I have a question. Do you think there would be a problem matching up a Trace Elliot ELF with a Phil Jones C27 cab?

An important question is how much money do you want to spend.

If you have some free cash I would suggest considering Quilter or Genzler.

Quilter makes a series of cabs called Bassliner that have a built in mount for their BB800 Amp. The amp weighs 4lbs and the cabs come in a variety of sizes: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Genzler makes a couple of versions of the Magellan 350 combo where the amp can be mounted in a cradle on the speaker. Here is the original: Magellan 350 Combo - Genzler Amplification
Here's the new model: Magellan 350 MG12T-V COMBO - Genzler Amplification

I will be playing a two-week long 15 piece (loud) orchestra gig at a 500 seat theater with this rig next week, no foh.

This will be the second time I have used this at this venue. I throw the head in the bass case and the cab only weighs 22lbs. This replaced my 70lb PF-500 and PF-210HE for all gigs.

I'd like to throw my suggestion into the ring. I Have two amps, the Gallien Krueger MB200 and MB500. The MB200 is 2 pounds and 200 watts and the GK MB500 is 4 pounds and 500 watts. Both amps are ultralight powerhouses.

I have two Eden EX110 cabs that weigh 25 pounds each that I use with the MB500 when double stacked for 500 watts of power. You can buy the MB200 with one cab and still have a powerful little mini stack. When not in use it will take up very little space at home. Eden also makes a 4 ohm version of these cabs if you only want one and run the MB200 at 4 ohms @ 200 watts.
