Tool tone/FX sticky thread ver. 1

Hi, I've got a Tool cover show coming up but only have 1 amp(GK Fusion 550 into Berg 410). Would you bother blending in a rat at the end of the chain or just forgo the "dirty amp"?
I've got the rest of the effects covered.

Also, those of you that have done Tool shows, what did your setup include?

Since the rat loses bottom maybe a blendable distortion that also only distorts higher frequency- like Crushstation in an h9 or a Darkglass x type pedal...
I'm already splitting signal at the start and got a hpf set a 125hz on the effected signal and blending with low boosted punchy attacking clean preamp. Using my G&L L2000 in active Treble boost mode.
So if I was to add the rat, I would be putting it at the end of my hpf effected side before blending the clean back with it.
Sounding pretty good/close already but not sure if that extra step will help nail it or hinder. I guess I can only buy a rat and decide for myself in the end if my curiousity gets the better of me, but still interested in other ppls thoughts and what they have done themselves.

The mxr bass distortion on led mode (ala turbo rat) with dry blended in sounds awesome... I had an OG Proco turbo rat and although it’s sold now I think comes pretty close.
Yeah great suggestion. If I get a rat with a dry blend at the end of my chain, I can dial in unity "dry effected" and as much wet dirty rat as needed. That way I can even bypass it for cleaner sections and no need for another signal blender pedal. I think I will definitely go down this route.

Sounds pretty cool. It’s on my Christmas List for sure.
Looks like like there is 7 selector switches similar to the ones on a GT2.

Most of the Tool shows i have played have been one single chain, using one head and cab .. with a Rat,Eq and preamp pedals at the end...and sitting on top of the head. Its actually easier to get a Tool tone this way, than 2 channels.

I can hook you up with a guy that Mod's Rats for bass. Although its not a specific wet/dry blend like a whammy has...but it does have a blend function that takes your signal and blend as much of the Rat in as you want.
If your interested, send me a PM and i will give you his deets.

There are lots of rat clones out there that already have that feature

Anything from fuzzrocious - eat, rat king, rat tail etc or on the cheap - this guy MXR® BASS DISTORTION

I have been through the gauntlet of pedals since 2005....and im still buying and trying pedals. Got my 3rd modded Rat last week.
Fuzzrocious makes great stuff. Doesn't work for Tool though IME......i tried acouple of them.
Even un-modded Rats dont work as good as the modded ones i have....and i tried every Rat but the very first one they made.
