Top 10 list for Fender J bass strings

I'm looking for the top strings for J basses as far as sales, is there such a list?
I assume rounds would sell the most as they are replaced more regularly but what are the top consumer choices for Fender J bass in general? Thanks in advance!

Well if you go by the strings that come with Fender J basses then it’s Fender 7250m’s.

I don’t think there is any way of knowing what strings are the most popular purchased for J basses because that info isn’t gathered at the point of sale.

Historically Roto 66’s were a popular choice to pair with J’s. But that’s also back when there were fewer string options.

My guess is it would be the same as the best selling strings in general. Which I think are D’Addario XL’s and Ernie Ball Slinky’s.

DR Pure Blues? I like em. I'll buy your bass if you put them on right now. Kidding... I'm kidding. It's nice that you go the extra yard when selling. It always sucked when trying a bass out at a store and it had dead strings on it. Since the buyer will not be able to try it, you could include their favorite strings with the purchase. Assuming the majority of J-bass players are NOT on TalkBass, I would guess D'Addario XL Nickels, Ernie Ball Slinkys and Fender 7250 are the top three as just about every music store carry them in stock. Followed by a variety of DR offerings, ie Hi Beams, Sunbeams, Pure Blues and Lo-Riders (both stainless and nickel).

Never seen a list. Ten players may recommend ten different brands/models/gauges of strings. And those players may not prefer any of the strings any of the other people recommend. So what use is that? The bottom line, YOU have to find the best strings for YOU.

You have strings on your bass now. You may like them. You may not. If you don't, then replace the strings and try those. You may like them. You may not. Rise, lather and repeat.

I may find 20 flatwound strings players that swear by those, and even if they find 20 different brands they feel are worth trying, that's fine but not useful for me. I've known I'm just not a flatwound guy. I knew that 30 years ago and it remains true. Provided the gauges are the same, I could plausibly use and enjoy 5 or more brands of strings, and surely over the decades I have used 5 or more brands of strings on a Jazz Bass. More than just "These are good enough", I tend to feel "I'm perfectly happy with these strings and would have no problem buying and using these again."

Since this thread is about the top selling strings, rather than everyone's favorites around here, I think you're absolutely correct. GHS strings used to be ubiquitous in stores, but they seem to have given way, largely to DR, I *think*.
