That tune would be Della Brown, and that dude would be Eddie Jackson. I've met him a couple of times. VERY cool guy, totally down to earth. He also met my son and took the time to talk to him and take a pic with him. Great guy...

I'll add to the list of people most seniors here have never heard of except maybe that last one. It boils down to the producer/engineer when it comes to actual recorded signal imo, not to diminish the player's role! but so much happens in the studio.

+1 on the Producer/Engineer. Chris Aiken's tone on Calling isn't an 'everyday use' sort of tone, but it's so beastly and full that it deserves notice.

Ask me tomorrow and I'll have 6 more up! I see the point of this exercise though, always good to find out what others can come up with for "best recorded tones". Makes me feel like I should check some older stuff too, maybe the sounds on those tapes will influence my next choice of bass/pedal/amp! :bassist:

You're right. (I know the song and bassist. I was just poking a little fun at the OP.)

Empire was an amazing album all around. The guitar tones are great, drums, vocals, song writing, etc. Definitely one of my all time favorites.

I guess if you're a really unhappy, negative jerk then something harmless like this thread is very confusing.
The point was not so much to force one's preferences down peoples throats. It was to say " these are the tones I dig, what do you dig?"
Interesting result is that geddy and Chris squire are coming up again and again. So the ric sound still seems to have some fans, it would be nice to hear it on some contemporary music!'
Also interesting, I was unfamiliar with Justin Chancellor whose name pops up alot. Checked him out and I find his tone to be similar to Eddy Jackson's.

Talkbass conversation digression from opinion sharing to argument seems to be at an all time high, at least in the few years I've been checking it out. Perhaps some type of forum rules/guidelines update? I like seeing what other people are into and checking that music out, but wading through the negativity and pissing contests is getting pretty lame for a site that really should just be a fun distraction. Yeah yeah, I know, "dont read it", flame on...

And as much as I dont like Gunz and Roses, their bass player has an incredible sound.
