top 5 BRITISH bassists whose PLAY you admire

Tied for first place, I've got Percy Jones and John Entwistle.
I also really admire Level 42's Mark King, Nick Beggs from Kajagoogoo, and Andy Metcalfe, who used to play with Robyn Hitchcock.

Honourable mentions to:
Andy Rourke from the Smiths, and that guy who played on Watching The Detectives (I think his name might be Andrew Bodnar). Oh, and Mark Bedford from Madness.

Lonesomedave; That would be the one, I was thinking Savoy Brown but that was a long time back. One of the young bass players from my home town was giging at a New Haven hot spot called "Hungry Charlies" (later known as Toads)and if I remember right he was approached then to work a tour with them and off he went. I'm trying hard to remember his name but as I said it was a long time ago and didn't know him personally. I met Dave a year or so early I think at the Record Plant in New York . I hate when a name avoids my memory however I do remember that he was a solid player and worked with a New Haven drummer named Bobby Torello who later worked with Johnny Winter and maybe Edgar too. I'm thinking Gregory was his first name, New Haven area produced some fine players and had a multitude of venues to work in. Having a major unniversity right in downtown (Yale) and atleast 5 colleges in the area also with plenty of clubs and bars that promoted live music was such a huge benefit. My home town was a great place to be a young musician growing up. Thanx LD, Doc


........got it Craig McGregory!!!! spelling might be wrong but thats him hahahaha!!!! worked the "Swan" band and maybe the "New Breed" with the Torello Brothers Booby T and Billy. Solid player even as a young guy coming up, very good.
