Torn between two Orange's.

Ola amp smart TB friends.

I am really, tearing at the seems from my Orange gas. I have narrowed it down between two of their offerings but can't decide if saving for a couple months is worth it for my needs.

Right now I am, as they say in France, a bedroom all star. I have no huge plans of gigging again anytime in the near future but I do think ill start finding some guys to jam with in the coming months... But I need an amp that would be suitable for bedroom practice and small venues yada yada...

I've narrowed down my search, and my eyes are set on the CR100BXT Combo and the OB1-300 Combo.

Between my active eq on my Ibanez and the minimal controls on the OB1 ( that blender... So good.) all I would need for tone that I am 100% happy with is my bass and amp. I absolutely loooove the sound of the OB1 but am terrified it will cause my neighbors grief (top floor condo) or be too much for this point in time. I'm also a bit scared of the price at $1800 CDN...

I haven't been able to find the cr100bxt to actually try it (tried a 50 and liked it), but at less than half the price it seems pretty stellar in itself for a practice amp. From what I hear volume wise it would more than suit my purposes, and probably more than adequate for our small venues locally if I did ever play out as PA support is literally everywhere.

Anyone have any experience with these amps, and think the price hike is worth waiting for the OB1?

And no, im not interested in any other amps. I'm pig headed and a brand loyalist. Mesa almost got me but I really wasn't that fond of the D800.

I have a AD200B and plan on getting that OB1 not because I need it but because I just want one they sound so nice and that bi-amp feature is so cool. I think the OB1 is what you want.

It does sound like a dream doesn't it? Looks like Rocksmith only practicing for the next few months unless someone has anything nice to say about the 100BXT , but I feel like I'll regret not getting the OB1.

It's not really a fair comparison. The combo is sensible, but the ob1 is a beast! The $$ is hard to stomach, but the smile on your face won't easily be removed if you get it.

Yeah more videos and research tonight, and just hearing it makes me giggle with glee. Not much can do that to a man.

There's one of those bi preamp amps in the classifieds going pretty cheap.

Regarding amps in apartments, the volume knob is effective on any amp but you have to accept you can't use hardly any before it goes through the walls and floor. Headphones.

If you have decent speakers or monitors Amplitude has great Orange amp models I use the exact same settings on their amp as I do on the real thing they really sound that good.

Either amp is going to be too much in a condo. Bass frequencies carry through floors and walls even at very low volume levels. This can be a deal breaker in a condo. Practice involves playing repeated patterns and this can drive neighbours nuts. You can count on having to use headphones but neither the OB-1 or the CR100BXT Combos have a headphone out.

Which amp to get is a difficult decision. If you start with 100W, it will serve your practice needs. When you are ready, upgrade to a more powerful amp. The models will continue to improve, what will be available down the road will be better.

A 300W amp will provide more headroom but if you are playing at a lower levels, you won't be pushing the amp hard enough to require that additional headroom. If you anticipate playing out, go for the higher powered amp if you can afford it. The blend feature of the OB-1 is a big selling point. If I were going with the OB-1, I'd want a head and cab. There's an advantage to having the option of using different cabs.

If at all possible, take a road trip and try both amps. Upon hearing them, one might suit your needs better than the other.

And Beans, our condo isn't your average condo. We can get away with a LOT of volume but I still am considerate and am not looking to keep whatever I buy at 10... Just future proofing.
