What a great bunch of guys!

That Yin Yang standard is an amazing instrument. It felt good to find out that it has fallen into the hands of a player who can really get the best out of it.

Deb's iAmp Pro was a remarkable bit of kit, as well. I didn't like the control layout, and I'm a bit spoiled by the simplicity of the four band G-K EQ, but man, that thing produced some smooth, musical tones. Colossal punch when we ran it at 2 ohms/1,200 watts, too!

I was struck by how good gear has gotten in the last decade or so. We were plugging into rigs that cost anywhere between $350 and a few $K, yet the only time I heard anything untoward was when my little 100w Rumble combo was trying to keep up with about 1500 watts worth of other stacks...

Ditto for the cheaper basses. The exotics showed that they were capable of producing extended-range solo tones that you simply can't get from anything else, but when everything was dialled in for middle of the road, on-the-gig sounds, they all sounded great, and in most cases, remarkably similar.

I wish there had been these kinds of choices when I was kid, playing 60's short-scale Hagstrom and Harmony basses...

The best part of the day for me (other than my daughter-in-law's excellent quiche), was realizing that I had finally walked away from a GTG with zero GAS. It's nice to have finally landed in a place where I'm happy with everything I own, after nearly 50 years of searching.

The GTG was fantastic and I was terribly impressed with the good company and gear. Lots of cool musicians to talk to. Diverse playing styles. No drama. Just an all-around fun time. Thanks to John for the lift and to Nick for organizing everything and for everyone who brought stuff for others to try out.

Yeah, the iAMP Pro is a great and super capable amp, with an overly complex but very customizable EQ section. But, in truth, I was diggin' the little ol' MBF500s. Might need to pickup a MBF800 and maybe that pedal John has. What's that thing called? I'm not as GAS-proof as Steve.

Ron (aka bowerne) was talking about Jaco towards the end of the GTG and told me there's a movie coming out. Possibly at this year's TIFF? Didn't know this was happening but I'm chuffed.

The documentary is done and Trujillo is doing the filmfest rounds.

I ordered a signed Blue Ray (signed by Trujillo, not Jaco of course!) last year and it has been delayed from this month to at least late summer. Can't wait to see it in any case, but it will be a while....

So if anyone that was at the GTG recalls my Ampeg SVT6-Pro tarted making a burning smell while we were taking the group photo. Thougt it was just an overheat but at home when the band had a rehearsal it was working fine but after 15 minutes heard a crackling noise coming through the speakers. Shut it down immediately and used my back-up rig. Took the Ampeg to L&M to get it checked out last Saturday. Called yesterday and they have had to ship it out somewhwere for service. No idea what this means but kinda guessing it's on a trip to Ampeg.

Also not sure because L&M told me they have a policy that if the repair work is under $100 they don't call they just do it. I was good with that. But if they had to ship it I figure it's a bigger deal and noboday called me.

Anybody selling a GK MB800 Fusion?

Good People of the T.O.GTG...

I wanted to post in HOT DEALS, but couldn't find that thread with the search???

I picked up a Yamaha BB 425x for $299.00 !!! @ The Arts Music store in Newmarket.

I thought there would be just one, shop worn unit - but still trekked up there to check it out... They had 5 or 6 NIB - now they have one less Vintage White :)

Super nice bass for crazy cheap.

$249 for the Yamaha now. That is a killer deal!

Yeah - I actually paid $249 as well - the original e-flyer had them @ $299 (which was still awesome)... If I wasn't so lazy, I'd go back for another one :)

My only gripes are Yamaha's relatively tight string spacing on the BB's & the pickup selector switch (vs a blend knob), but overall, I can't imagine a better bass for the buck...
