Tort or not Tort? (Jag Bass)

I took my 2011 Jag to a gig; I don't think the mint 'guard looks ugly... however would a tort 'guard look better?

I'm not a big fan of tort either. My Active Jazz has a tort pickguard that I will probably replace some day, I just don't hate tort enough to have changed it yet, I guess. On the other hand I don't care that much for sunburst finishes either but a burst finish is the one where a tort guard looks most at home, in my opinion. I think it is rare that 2 out of 3 of your first replies are nay, there is a huge tort fanbase here on TB and I am sure they will wake up soon.

I don't mean to be harsh, but if esthetics are the issue I'd be more concerned about the strap and the cable routing than the pickguard. The orangey/reddish strap competes for the eye's attention with the guitar. The coil cable across the lower bout of the guitar cuts up the impact and visual beauty of the instrument. In my view, whenever possible, a 90° cable on the shortest path to being behind the guitar is always the best choice.

iJazz - My 2¢ are worth about 2¢ and not much more.

I think the guard in the picture looks pretty rubbish, so my guess is that a tort guard would indeed be an improvement.
So would be black, for example. IMHO, of course.
BUt then again...why spend money on mere appearences.
At the end I think I'd get used to what's on there and just not look at it all too much and hope that wear will make it look a little better.

Tort + 3tsb + rosewood = win

True that! Part of the huge tort fanbase here. All my burst basses have had tort guards put on them. Not that I go with tort for everything. I've got quite a few others in pearloid etc. But for burst a solid black or white just looks "cheap" to me. Sure a mint guard is better, but I still think tort is best.
