Can you see the bird in this picture? It's a white heron. I have never seen one here before. I walk this road past this farm pond every day... seen the more common blue ones. Never a white one.

But this evening, I startled this big white bird out of the water.

These are from before and after dinner last week in Portland, OR. The second includes the eerie glow from a fire behind the red building in the first pic. Toxic-smelling smoke from the fire required us to leave our outdoor table sooner than planned. We don't know what was burning, and I couldn't find info about it on the web, but hey, it showed these masks we're carrying around can be useful in unexpected ways!
