Thanks mate, All other maths was fine, I just could never quite get my head around it. I never needed it in my trade Telecommunications Tech (all electro mechanical stuff in my area of expertise) and later tree lopping (all mechanical there).Leigh and Harp,
Sorry to distress you needlessly. You are both probably victims of bad teachers. Math can be learned rather easily if taught properly and the student can deal in abstraction. The US, UK both all taught excellent math 60 years ago.
I encounter high school students today who cant add without counting on their fingers. If you cant count, you cant do algebra and if you cant do algebra, you cant do calculus. Which is why I don't do any remedial math tutoring these days. Flashcards anybody>
I did enjoy tutoring gifted young children 1st to 5th grade as a hobby. Math sense emphasized. Almost exclusively Asian or African Americans - the parents wanted their kids to have a head start in math. They love it. It can be fun.
Are you smarter than a 3rd grader? What's 2 to the 23 power approximately? Math can be taught. It can be learned
2 to the 10th power is about 1000. 2 to the 20 power would be about 1000x1000 - one million.
2 to the third power is 8.
So 2 to the 23rd power is about 8 million.
As my 3rd grade Vietnamese student who came to the US a few years ago demonstrated for the HS kids.
And why not Bob's a good nameBob, i name it Bob.
