Traben John Moyer Signature 4 String pups switch problem

Hello everyone,

I am a beginner bassist (or more accurately I own a bass) and need your help with my new Traben. I just received this bass today and the seller said it was new. Except for a lot of finger prints on the body I don’t see any signs of wear but what do I know. Everything I’ve seen and read online says that the switch for the pups has five positions. Mine only has three. What gives??? Is there anything that I am missing? Has anyone heard of this people before and if so what was the fix?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Mojo

Hey man, As a fellow Traben owner I believe I can help. We have a Traben Club here on TB as well feel free to post any other questions you have there, we are willing to help the few of us that own them.

On to the question. As I'm sure your bass is new if bought from a store or online dealer its probably legit, Ebay on the other hand who knows. Here is the skinny on the 5 way switch. I don't have a Traben Moyer but here is a link to the control diagram.

Looks like it have 5 positions. My guess if say you put it all the way to the left, and move it very slowly to the right you should feel 4 more clicks. Maybe you just aren't feeling it. If that's not the case then you have problems.

If that is the case I would contact the seller or Traben themselves if sold from a dealer they should fix it for free. It has a lifetime warrenty.

Did some more research. Um... What color is the bass you have? If its greenish you may have a Weeks signature. Either way the weeks has a 3-way switch and if you got that in your John Moyer its wrong switch for the JM but correct for Weeks sig. Could be a issue of builder installed incorrect switch in the factory.

Here is a link to the Weeks Diagram.

Mooch,

Thanks for the quick reply. I went to the Traben Club section first but didn’t quite know how to navigate it. I guess it’s just a single thread with different topics?
I have the gloss black model. The only thing that says John Moyer is the truss rod cover. After looking at the box and sales receipt, I guess I ordered the standard model TRAJMSBK. Now I’m kinda lost, some sites call it the standard and others the signature. It has the same specs as the newer version from BC Rich. Still according to everything I’ve read whether a standard or signature it should have a five way switch. Mine definitely has only a three way swith. I will contact the company tomorrow.

Thanks again,
Mojo

Yeah there is 2 different models a standard and what they call a Havok, not sure the difference though, probably just color and maybe preamp. Sounds like they installed the wrong switch though. Keep us posted, if you have trouble getting to someone I can track down someone that might be able to help get to someone from Traben to respond quickly.

Sometimes they are great at getting back to people sometimes they aren't.

Called Traben today and they said some of the John Moyer Std Basses (TRAJMS4BK) were shipped off with three way switches instead of 5 way switches. They're not too sure if there is anything can do since they no longer carry the Havoc model bass. Can anyone tell me if their John Moyer Std bass came with a 3 way switch or the 5 way switch that's specified?
