First off , I have searched for an hour and can find no answer to how I might date trace products.
Can anyone clue me in on how to decode the serial #'s

Sorry, joking! not much help on finding out how old your gear is... maybe call Trace Elliot?

Every Trace I've used so far has a date on the inside - what to do; take off the wooden sleeve, and unscrew the chasis lid. All the guts should be labelled with a date, and a signature for whoever checked it!

i'd guess your SMC is from the mid 90s...
