That was a line array of tweeters when properly deployed in the vertical. Rather overkill these days.

Yup! The Bright Box. It's a very cool concept, and it works quite well.

I would say "yes," while noting that one must have reasonable expectations. It does not have the highest sheen or sparkle that you can get with a quality tweeter, but it has a good range of "natural" high end extension.

I expected as much. Maybe there is another high effieciency compact cab out there with some sizzle to pair well with the ELF.

Well, the rig performed great at the gig last night. I ran the Transit-B into the power amp in on the Quilter BB800, driving two of the Trace 2x8's. I had the Quilter about 1/3 of the way up on the master volume (the input gain is defeated when you use the power amp in), and I had plenty of volume. With everything set flat, there was not quite as much upper mids and highs for my preferences, but this is partly do to the room (which is the worst room I regularly gig in, as far as acoustics are concerned - it's normally a muddy, boom, woofy mess). Those EQ settings on the Transit-B were to account for the room, mostly. I've been running it more or less flat at practice. I was very pleased at the way this rig handled the "problem" room, and I was super impressed that four 8" drivers could handle a live gig with such ease.

They could put a coax driver in the top driver of just one of the cabs and get really good high extension.

Possibly, yes. But my strong suspicion is that for most people who play these cabs, even if you have played tweeter-equipped cabs in the past (that's mostly what I use), these 2x8's will have enough high end clarity and snap. I did a little bit of slap/pop on my Fodera, and man, it was all there. Plenty of highs. A tweeter might bring a bit more of that "air" and "quiet sparkle," but again, in a band setting, most of that is not heard, anyway.

Does the T-B have an SMX vibe ?

The Transit-B is definitely more SMX than the ELF. I don't have any recordings yet, but as part of my review, I will shoot some video comparing the new gear to some old Trace stuff.

I can't find any documentation that says the Elf or New Trace Eliot pedal has an analog or digital preamp. These days it seems typical that if it is analog it is advertised as such in description and specs but if digital it is rarely stated as such. It even seems that some companies will actively avoid revealing that a product is digital.

Anyone able to clarify? I don't care about the analog vs. digital debate, just transparency in topology of the preamp, eq, compressor...

Wow Tom. I was looking for one of these for my GK800RB biamp tpo and finally gave up and got a Klipsch Center KSC-1.

It has extremely simple controls and shows no sign of digital port.
I don't know where you got the notion that digital preamps are common but it's not what I see.
Multieffects aside, I think we can count digital preamps on our hands.
The most prominent ones are the GK Flex, Markbass EVO, TC Toneprint and Berg B-Amp.
Then you have a few modeling preamps like Line6 or Boss and that's it really.
Are there others you can think of?

I pre-ordered the Trace Elliot Transit B Bass Preamp Pedal a few months ago from GC but it's still listed as out of stock. I'm hoping they start shipping now that it's June as I have a 4th of July gig that I need this for and might be tempted to go in another direction if this isn't in my hands soon!
