Trace Elliot Question!!!

Hello all!! I am a new member of the Forum and I have a question about a Trace Elliot Combo I bought. I cannot determine the power this amp puts out. It is one of the black/green carpet with the 2 red stripes on the front behind the grill. It has the GP7 SM pre amp with the 7 band eq. Single 15 speaker, and on the back it is marked 150 watts rms / 300 peak. I saw a 300 watt TE combo on ebay today and wondered if that one is more thumpier than the one I have? The one I have now is great...but more is better!!! Any help????

...it is marked 150 watts rms / 300 peak.

You answered your own question right there. It is a 150 watt rms amp. It will easily hang with a lot of amps (not Trace) in the 250-300 watt range.

Now, do you actually need more power than that? What are you playing against? Are your in a quiet three piece jazz group playing coffee shops or a loud metal band with two quitar stacks and a loud drummer playing outdoor festivals or ???

Ooooh... let me beat Kelly to it!

"There are watts and there are Trace watts"

And this is true. My 250W Trace head will hang with all of my other heads (700, 850 and 500W) no problem.

So, sure 300W will be louder than 150W all other things being equal, but these amps are conservatively rated (to say the least).

Does it sound loud... then it is.

How do the older Trace combos like I have, compare to the newer stuff , like the 715X??

My amp was built in '95. It sounds good. It is loud!

So... does it sound good to you? Does it get you where you want to be volume wise? I will bet probably so...

Therefore, don't sweat it! You will always be chasing ghosts unless you sit back and enjoy what you have.

For the record, I have not sampled any of the "newer" stuff, nor am I inclined to. The old stuff sounds good to me, and for the money it is certainly a winner!
