Tube voltage.

Does anyone know at what voltage the tube runs at in the GP12 SMX series preamp/amplifier heads from Trace elliot?

I know the more recent version from Peavey runs at over 250 volts....Just curious about earlier Trace.

The attached schematic shows 150V HT knocked down to 40V on the plate of V1. The cathode has 15V so the effective plate voltage is 25V.

Interesting. Now the big question is what does that do to the tone having such a low plate voltage?

it warms it up, well short of appreciable "rawk"distortion, more of a clean running all tube amp sound.

I've been A/B'ing some of the amps I have collected over the years. It seems the ones with the high plate voltages in the pre's really bring out more harmonics. This is true with the Demeter HBP1 and Trace Elliot AH600-12 (Peavey era) units. People say the older Trace stuff sounds better, but IMHO I find the newer ones have more interesting things going on.

For the newer Peavey Trace when I run the signal clean through the tube stage, the notes jump out at you more. The difference is quite pronounced. Its not really and EQ thing either, the response is still flat but the notes just scream a bit more.
