Transcribing Tips

I have transcribe but don't see a function in it called Bass Select. This forum doesn't seem to support uploading transcribe format (.xsc) files. I was working with "Something," written by George Harrison and performed by the Beatles.

I use ears, instrument, pencil and paper.
My process is much like the OP:
  • first I outline the song form: mark the bar lines , repeats, d.c. al Coda's etc
  • then I google or figure out the chords, write those in
  • then I start jotting down the basic rhythm
  • for certain parts I will go as far as fully notating it
I prefer not to insert software into the process

Just sayin I don't use apps like Transcribe / Slowdowner when transcribing.
Just real time play back, pause & rewind.
iTunes / you tube for playback, and google for chords counts as "software" I guess
Call me busted

In some parts of the country, people are still using buggies.
I am in the group of people who think that "Happiness Is…a Good Transcription."
Even professionally-published ("show me the money") transcriptions
"lack reliability and certainly leave a lot to be desired."

I've rewritten published real book charts just because the bars don't line up evenly.

Here is my example.
Recently, I've heard Robin Thicke's song, "Brand New Jones."
I liked the bass line - it had a lot of glissandi - slides from and to.
I've googled that song for more info but I could not find ANYTHING on that bass line - no TAB, no transcription, no bass cover youtube videos. ZERO.
The same thing happened about searching for, more or less, correct chords from that song.
No chords. Yes, there is "something" from "chordify."

Without using my favorite Transcribe! I could not get a "close-to-perfect" bass transcription.

Try for yourself.
