Let us know what part of town you'll be in...Atlanta is a huge sprawling area with horrendous traffic so most recommendations would depend on where you are staying.
Oh man. I'm so bummed. I flew to Atlanta during Hurricane Matthew. Had no idea this store existed.
Oh I was in Atlanta GA last year (twice actually) for work training too. I can't express enough how good the food is at this place. A lot of the training is near where I was so wouldn't be surprised if you have this place near you. If you do GO TO IT!Be there in a week or two for job training, not even sure how much opportunity I'd have, but suggestions please for activities/interest points/BBQ places?

I've been to the airport, John Turners house, the Georgia Dome, and an IT training facility. Oh, and some sad sack bar full of crying Bama fans after they lost the SECCG to Florida. I wasn't there the year after when they beat Florida.

Go to a Taqueria del Sol - a Southern take on Mexican. Well worth it!
... and take a selfie with The Big Chicken while you're in Marietta.
Be there in a week or two for job training, not even sure how much opportunity I'd have, but suggestions please for activities/interest points/BBQ places?

12-year ATL resident here. To be honest, it's really not much of a tourist city unless you're looking for kid-friendly activities. Our biggest attractions seem to be the Coca-Cola Museum (boring) and the Georgia Aquarium (nice, but pricey and mostly overrun with kids). However, the food scene is pretty great, and depending on where you're staying, there are plenty of tasty and diverse options. And there are several cool neighborhoods to explore, but you'll definitely need access to a car (or Uber).
Regarding BBQ, I'd recommend Fox Bros. and DBA Barbecue. Sweet Auburn BBQ is also decent. What other types of cuisine do you like? Next to bass gear, food is my other passion, so I can help out if needed.
Definitely, rent a car but be prepared for heavy traffic. Off the top of my head, adding to the others. check out:

BBQ, seafood, and local pizza all sound good. I get plenty of Sonoran style food here, along with occasional Mexico City style cuisine. Any local to the ATL area would get preference, looking for things I can't get here.
I think training will be all day, starting at 8am, so probably not a lot of time for nightlife, but would attempt to make it to the right space.

It's been a while, but if it's still open, the restaurant at the ATL farmers market has some of the best genuine southern style food I've had outside of what my mom used to feed us growing up. I've only had lunch there a few times but I've eaten breakfast there many times and it is always a real treat.
The Perimeter/Dunwoody area is very much suburbia, with a lot of chain restaurants and such. If you want the good stuff, you'll have to make the short trek into the city. In addition to the BBQ I mentioned, there are several good pizza options, especially if you like Neapolitan style. My faves are Ammazza, Varuni Napoli and Sapori di Napoli. There are also 2 really cool food/retail markets that I recommend checking out. They're relatively new, but they've started to become destinations for locals and tourists alike. Links are below, and you could kill an evening checking out the first one:

Dunwoody isn't that far away, even if you need to take an Uber.
If you're into craft beer then Orpheus, Red Brick, or Monday Night are worth checking out, with the former specializing in sour beers that are to die for. $12 dollars at any of them will give you six pours of your choosing plus a pint glass that you'll get to keep and take home with you.
For seafood, I recommend The Big Ketch. The food is very fresh and tasty, and they sometimes have live music on the patio.
For pizza, Felini's is always worth a visit as you can buy it by the slice. My girlfriend from New York enjoys it, and she's very hard to please when it comes to pizza.
Taqueria Del Sol and Bartaco are very good Mexican styled restaurants that are worth checking out, but they are a little pricey.
The aquarium is world class, but it is pricey considering you can run through it in about 2-3 hours. However, if you're into wildlife then it might be worth the visit.
I wouldn't recommend checking out the Coke-Cola factory. If you've ever been to Epcot at Disney and have done the Coke tasting room that's there then you've essentially already done the Coke factory tour.
