Traynor yba-1a mk II questions

I own a 1972 YBA-1a. I mostly use it as a geetar amp.
It will work just fine at 4, 8, or 16 ohm loads. Pete Traynor built them that way... As does Bruce Zinky today. It will sound a bit different with different loads, but it should be quite safe. Enjoy it!

I happily run a 30w amp flat out & into distortion running into an 810 or 412 , both rated about 750w &, my goodness, I've not damaged anything.

I have an early 70s Traynor YC-610 cab for sale that was designed to "mate" with the YBA1A MkII. Sounds fab with it too!

I don't think any of us were trying to offend or insult you, man, relax. It's a discussion board. If you feel plugging an amp into a cab is unsafe, it's okay to have that opinion. Just state that it's your opinion instead of saying that everyone else is wrong and we'll all "learn one day" as in you're far superior in knowledge.

OP, have you thought, tried, or look into any more cabs? Obv, my opinion, is to try as many cabs as you can. From my experience you won't damage the amp nor the cab unles you play bass through a low watt guitar cab. Good luck.

Did they do a cap job while they had it? If the amp is truly all original, it is overdue for filter caps. Also, to get the funk out of the Traynor's grill cloth (I assume you mean the speaker cab) get some Spray Nine (Home Depot should have it) and do the spray/wipe thing until it comes clean. Use a white cloth or old T-shirt - not a paper towel - so you can see when it's cleaning up.

I wouldn't run an 8-10 on it. If you turn it up too far to try to drive all those speakers, and it starts clipping.....bye-bye speakers.......

why is clipping the speakers a bad thing? or do you mean clip the amp into a square wave as a signal into the speakers is bad?

The whole clipping, square waves blowing speakers thing is just an old wives' tale that some people cling to religiously. We've covered this in depth in dozens of previous threads.

Yeah, Spray Nine is one of the few products that actually cleans. Kills all kinds of nasties as well. Been using it since my days as a gas pump jockey.

Picked up a traynor yba-1a mk II last month. It was in near mint condition and running the original tubes. I took it to a local guitar shop that services tube amps and they checked it over 100%. I had them add a three prong plug, it needed the fan bearing repacked, and a new pre amp tube. They also bench tested it and it showed 85 watts, which the owner was amazed at out of the two power tubes.
Now my main questions is which input should I be using for bass? It has 2 I inputs and 2 II inputs. Also can I drive my svt 810 with this? I know it's rated to 8 ohms and the svt is 4 ohms. I don't want to. Have blowing the Hammond ot since they don't make the like they used to. I was thinking of buying a ampeg v4 that I found for 400 or an svt classic I found on gc for 699 to drive the svt.
The Traynor did come with a yb-18a, which is a folded design 18 that runs at 8 ohm. Problem is the tolex and grill smell like a cigarettes do bad it's annoying. I got most off the tolex but the grill will need replaced.
