Traynor YC-610 Sealed Cabinet - Replacement Speakers Needed

I have a Traynor YC-610 (older model) where there are three separate enclosures in the cabinet: speakers are sealed 2 x 10" - total 3 enclosures for 6 total speakers. I was thinking Eminence Alpha 10A's, yet want to ensure they'll be fine for the sealed cabinet. Any thoughts on if I'm going down the right road?

I was going to buy that exact cab at a local pawnshop with a broken driver and called Avatar Speakers. You can get all 6 drivers shipped for around 200 bucks or less if I remember correctly. They are the celestions Peavey uses for the Trace Elliot cabs.

Alpha 10s have good specs for sealed cabs; aside from impedance they're similar to the SVT driver.

Those are the Celestion TF1020, which don't have good specs for sealed, and such a short xmax and high Fs that they really shouldn't be used for bass at all.

I'm fairly certain there's no recones available for the Marslands used in those.

Legend around the Big Blue Y has it that the Marslands were not very reliable for bass, though.

You're assumption is incorrect, kits are available. Both Edword and I have reconed the Marsland speakers in our Traynor YC810 cabinets.

FWIW, I've always found that Marslands in the YC610 and YC810 always worked well for bass. That's not to say that a newer designed higher powered speaker won't work well also in a YC610.

just curious as to how the cab is currently wired and the impedance of drivers and final cab ? thanks

From the factory they were 5.33 ohms -- three series-connected pairs of eight ohm drivers in parallel -- 16/3 = 5.33.

FWIW, I've always found that Marslands in the YC610 and YC810 always worked well for bass. That's not to say that a newer designed higher powered speaker won't work well also in a YC610.

These guys will be happy to service/recone Marslands. They've done about two dozen for me...
