circa 1850?
Circa 1850 Heavy Body Paint and Varnish Remover

im hoping not to have order anything. ill check out my hardware store and see what is available.

ill want to get some heavy duty stuff, if the poly is as thick as i think it is.

1850, That's it!! It's been a few years since I've used it and I do have half a gallon in the garage, sorry! :o Any way it's a gel so it's not running all over.

ill have to hit up the hardware store this weekend and see what my options are.
ive never been into "fire-engine red" basses, and have been gassing a natural p bass and a deluxe.
figured, why not do both?

from what i have read, these mexican squiers from what i hear are basically mim fenders with a squier logo. made from left over mij and mim parts when the mexican plant first opened.

I did a bit of trickin' to my squier jazz

Started as this factory squier 60's classic vibe jazz

then came this

now it's this

I added black Schaller tuners with a black string tree jobby.
Black Kahler 7410 tremolo a black control plate with black knurled knobs.
removed the thumb guard deal.

I'm contemplating a different pickguard, more of a red tortoise shell one.

Here's my heavily modified Squier:

It started out as a P-Bass Special from '99, with a rosewood Jazz Neck. I have since changed:

-The neck is from a 2006 Squier VM Precision Bass with maple fretboard.
-Bridge is a Gotoh 201
-Swapped the original Pickups with SD 1/4 Pounders (Precision and Jazz)
-Swapped the cheap 500k pots with 250k CTS pots, and new knobs.
-Switchcraft Jack
-Dunlop Straplocks
-DIY crappy paintjob on the Pickguard (matte black) and the Pickup covers (ivory)

The only original piece left is the body! It still needs to be properly setup since I only recently added the neck, and the action could be better. Also, it's tuned to C Standard and has thicker strings.

You shouldn't have said anything...I thought it was anodized Aluminum!

Nicely done...great looking bass!!! :hyper:

Haha, Thanks! That would actually look pretty good! I guess it looks like that because it's the old pickguard and it was pretty beaten up. It had stains and tape over it, and I struggled to get it off entirely. Still, it was easier and cheaper than to order a black squier replacement pickguard, believe it or not. The Fender ones don't fit, and buying one off ebay wouldn't guarantee me that it would fit either.

Also, I kinda dig the matte black. :ninja:

Ill update numbers here soon!

I just got my 1998 MIM Squier Precision yesterday. I was actually surprised by the build quality, needs a few tweaks here and there but not bad. I was going to mod this to an extreme, but I think Ill keep this one a bit more conservative. Its a beautiful C.A.R., much better than I thought it would be, with a rosewood fretboard. I think Ill do some cosmetic changes to start then get a drop d tuner on it and some new wiring. Debating if I want to go with a vintage sounding pickup or something a bit more modern. Going to be a fun and semi-simple project though.

Cool! Good to hear you got it safe.... Nordstrands are nice pickups :D

I havent had a set of Nordstrands personally, but I have heard them. The options for a pbass are practically endless as far as drop in replacements. Ive even debated putting Fralins in it. Considering I only paid $100 for the bass, the upgrades alone would be at least twice that amount.

Jaguar SS and parts by Invalid Link Removed, on Flickr

It's at the shop being stripped right now. The only things left being Squier will be the body and neck, but that's 2 pretty big parts.

Being repainted Burgandy Mist with matching headstock, thru the body bridge, Stellartone pots, Bourne V pots, Hipshot Ultra Lites, Jaguar slider switches, Strat jack, Lace Alumatone P & J Pups, Grover strap locks, the red tort pickguard will replace the original and also the chrome control plate. Be strung with GHS 3060s if they fit with the thru body or D'Addario SS Tapes.
