no chips at all

-Warmoth P-bass neck, Tele-bass headstock, goncalo alves w/ fretless pau ferro board
-Basslines Quarter-Pounder P-pup
-Joe Barden J-pup
-Schaller tuners and vintage-style string retainer
-black neck plate
-Dunlop stap locks
-Gotoh 201 bridge

I really dig that pearl paint! I scored a black 32" MIJ Sqier Precision in the classifieds here last year and bribed JohnK into refinishing it to Burgundy Mist. The trickiest part was finish removal. He said that the strongest chemical stripper just softened the original finish a bit, so he ended up having to sand it off.
He did an exemplary job on the new finish. Other mods performed: custom-cut nitro tort guard, installed CTS pots (original knobs had to be drilled to fit), NOS tone cap, Duncan SBP-1 with dulled covers, refinished headstock with decal of Leo's last name...Burgundy Mist is officially my new favorite 'vintage color'.

He hadn't fitted it when this pic was taken, but it wears a bridge cover - I don't 'do' pickup covers.
On a keeping it vintage looking note, before DiMarzio came out with the creme colored Model P in the '70s, were there ever any colors other than black for P-Bass pickups?
I don't think so. I think they where black.
But it would still suit the body colour and the rest of the bass in my opinion

@spiritbass that looks AWESOME! It seems like the neck is not a CV Squier isn't it? It doesn't have the truss hole on the headstock...but anyways the color is sweet!!
This bass was made in '85, before the Classic Vibe series was introduced. John put a small notch in the body so that the truss rod can be adjusted without removing the neck. Thank you for your kind words!
I have a black Squier Affinity 4 string jazz bass that I bought new.
I was feeling a little embarrassed but when my bass instructor asked to see it first lesson, he was very complimentary about the finish, the tone, and the setup. He asked who set it up for me, and was floored when I told him I took it out of the box and tuned it. Now he is a professional jazz musician and jazz professor at a very large university, and owns a five string American Jazz, so I felt a whole lot better about my bass.
Two things I would like to change.
1. It seems to have some noise beyond the 60 cycle hum at higher volumes. I see articles about using the copper tape, common ground to pots and bridge to a lug, etc. Any one else do this? Are the stock pots ok?
2. The tuners are the cheapie closed Affinity style. They stay in tune but just look cheap. As this bass has a really nice neck, and finish, I would like to fix it up and keep it. Anyone do a tuner swap on this particular model? I am thinking this was a Chinese one.

1. The "copper tape" will help you shield the electronics, the "shielding paint" they use are in my opinion poor and have very little connectivity. New pot is a big improvement and I recommend "CTS"
