Tricked Out Squier Club Part 3

Wasn't aware of the zero fret insert. So it fits into the nut slot? And the strings rest on the fret which is attached to the white plastic 'guide'? And by 'makes the open strings sound fretted' - I'm not certain I understand… so it makes the note ring in a more metallic way? (like having a brass nut?)

Nice bass - good colour, Geezers are good, pg looks appropriately 'aged' (minty).

It's called the zeroglide zerofret. Google it or go to Goldtones website. They are the ones that make the Goldtone Microbass which is similar to a Kala Ubass except a bit larger. I installed one on my Rick 4003s also. Here is a picture.

I recon it's time I joined the club, bought this Crimson Red Jaguar Special a few years ago since then I've upgraded everything except the pots/bass boost. I bought everything from right here on talkbass also. Not shown in the pic is the "F" stamped tuners with "D-tuning" lever on the E string. The neck was just purchased and received today, it's from a 2010 Jaguar VM(not special) with the painted headstock and MOP block inlays (paid more for the neck than I did the whole guitar LOL), the bridge is a "FENDER" badass style and the pickups are a P/J set of SD Quarter Pounders. It's about as tricked out as I'm going to get it, I'd still like to put a nice preamp in it though...there's always one more thing.....a fancy pickguard mabye?

You mean all rattley and choked out? That doesn't sound like an upgrade at all!

Nope. FWIW, MIA Standard P pickguards aren't all the same either... They seem to very from bass to bass!

Not so sure...I've been through like a dozen Fender pick guards across the several AmStd P's I've owned and each has fit exactly as it should. I don't have an AmStd J so can't comment on that.

Hey,guys, i just bought an Age pearl white pickguard for my Squier CV 60P from Dhgate.com seller melody_pickguard

The pickguard cutting is best fit and the screw hole align accurate for Fender Pbass spec. The pickguard material is solid than other pickguard i bought from Ebay, the quality is come close to Fender spec. Lot colour choice.

Hey guys, this is my modified Squier Mikey Way signature mustang bass! I worked on this one for quite a while- given that it's my first major project I really wanted to do it right. Changes from the original specs are a completely gloss black nitrocellulose neck, reshaped, lollipop-esque tuners, a Mike Lull T4 humbucker, brand new CTS pots (values matching Gibson's spec for a thunderbird) and a switchcraft jack input. Another mod I did was to "brush" the chrome, giving a brushed steel look to the metal hardware instead of the shiny chrome. Loving this bass so far! If you guys are still giving out numbers, I'd be happy to have one

Did the neck suffer some sort of trauma to make it a headless bass?

Not at all, previous owner simply decided to turn the pro tone into a headless bass.
Don't ask me why

Hey all. I've been toying with this idea and I finally went and done did it. I updated the controls on my 2009 Squier Classic Vibe ’50s Precision Bass today. The recording, done directly from the bass into my Focusrite iTrack Solo into Cubase, with no EQ, compression or mastering of any kind, is as follows:


1: Stock, tone wide open.
2: Upgrade, tone wide open.

3: Stock, tone half way
4: Upgrade, tone half way

5: Stock, tone all the way down
6: Upgrade, tone all the way down

The harness was one I picked up on Ebay, and to me it sounds great and is built specifically for a PBass or Snakeshead Tele build. I'd recommend this upgrade for any Squier Precision bass, as it was inexpensive and very easy to install. You will need to open up your control plate holes a bit, though. Not a big deal for a Dremel tool with a grinding bit.

CTS Potentiometer- (2) 250K New 450G Series 10% Tolerance, U.S. sized 1/4" Solid Shaft, 1/4" Bushing
KCZ Tone Capacitor- K42Y Russian Mil Spec, Paper In Oil, .047uF@ 250V

Gavitt Cloth Covered Wiring

John Kallas refinished this '82 medium-scale (from black) for me, cut the guard from a celluloid blank, and installed a SD SBP-1.

Turned out real nice!

Beautiful color and great looking pickguard. That tort would look good on my Candy Green SPJ5 drool

My VM Precision bass. Changed out the black pickguard and added an ashtray. Put d'Addario flats on her and she just PURRS! Not sure if I should add a thumb rest or not...what say you?
