Tricked Out Squier Club

besides the acid trip pick-guard and EMGs, whats all done to it?
not to say its not tricked out, usually looking for the details though.
guessing its been refinished?

yes. It was a black bass, and the paint was THICK. A humble Squier P-bass, it kicks serious butt. Acid pick-guard hand-decorated by me, with gift wrapping paper and a natura based glue. Active EMG's, stained and sealed with Minwax 1 step Stain and Polyurethane honey pine satin # 310. The lower bout strap button is in the "No head dive " position. The Fender logo is hand drawn and is white paper painted with an orange fluorescent highlighter pen. Weights in at 8.60, and it has a great sound. Strung with Roto Sound Swing 66, and it also has an orange barrel:ninja:, ehem... capacitor :)

When I was 16 I took my 2003 sunburst squire j bass and sanded the paint off, stained it deep brown, replaced the pickups, added a black pickguard, replaced the "squire" logo with a 70's fender logo, aged all the metal parts by suspending them over muratic acid, ripped the frets out and epoxied the neck. I can't afford a real 70s fender so it might as well look the part :)

I just got into the Squier game with a '70s vintage modified jazz....
I love it so far, but I'm feeling like it could be better with some easy alterations. Looking to upgrade the DD p'ups/pots...can anyone suggest p'ups they upgraded with that made a marked improvement in the overall tone?

I have one of these ones at the moment and I love it. I'm not thinking of doing anything to the pickups to it as of yet but it will have the laquer stripped, have a burst put on it, have the scratchplate switched to tortoise shell and have a bridge and pickup cover installed. It would've been easier to just buy a burst one but they had none in stock and weren't able to order one for a while, just need to find the time to do it.

Well it DOES lack that certain sound and feel that only a 30+ year old worn in Jazz Bass has... BUT considering I only spent around $60 in upgrades and relic'ing, I certainly wont complain! :D

looks pretty neat, anymore info on your hardware relic process?
ive heard that method before, but i dont know much about it.
curious as to how your personal experience went.

Nicely done, except I don't believe that Fender used dots on Rosewood fingerboard Jazz' in the '70s. Precisions yes, Jazz' I don't believe so...

And....my first bass was a brand new '74 Precision and I have to tell you, all of my Squiers (and MIM P) play better!

True, they did not use dots back then... but I was only 16 at the time so giving me a router and telling me to route in block inlays would've been a way bigger disaster than a few historical inaccuracies! :)

My latest acquisition: a Classic Vibe Precision which I tricked out with creme pickup shells and a mint green pickguard (no drilling required) for the aged look. A new set of flatwound strings sealed the deal - this is now my favorite bass!

Instead of reeming new holes for tuners in the affinity P. I returned it and got a 77 Jazz VM like this one. Link Removed

I threw a couple of Kent Armstrong Lipsticks in there with the neck from my 75 VM and a set of Black Beauties and black p bass knobs. There is also a high mass Fender bridge on order for her. I thought about the whole Geddy thing but I like ths more. Link Removed

Then I started with my 75. She has a tort guard and jazz knobs on orderLink Removed
Link RemovedNow I am off to L and M to get a set of Rotosound 66's for her.

Next will be my 5 string when it arrives.

It sure sucked a few months a go when I had to sell gear because of my accident, but I am having fun now:hyper:
