Tricked Out Squier Club

Totally love this! I'm working on one myself, turning my old Squier into a fretless unrecognizable piece, slowly but surely. Converted an old FirstAct bass to fretless, took the neck off of it and attached it to the Squier. I'll probably replace that neck (as it's rather short) when I get in the mood to de-fret the Squier's neck (which I took from a MIM 1999 Fender I bought all beat-up at a flea market for $50). Potentially this weekend... but I'm building one to save some money and to experiment. Gotta look into installing some sick electronics though, too!

Here's an update on my severely modded lefty Indonesian Squire P.

It started life as a 4 string with a white pick guard. Just added the tort guard & I love how it looks save for one area of under coverage by the jack. I did indeed order a squire pick guard so it should fit but oh well. have to get creative to cover that little spot.

Mods:
Pick up swap to Bill Lawrence P46
custom cut nut
string tree added
5th tuning peg added
swapped 4 string bridge for 5 string bridge
J bass bridge cover
abalone topped knobs
new pots
white PG swapped for tort PG
block inlay decals
vine decal

Chevy S/B Mouse Motor - 265/283/301/302/305/327/350/377/400
Ford S/B Windsor - 221/255/260/289/302/351/400

I don't think I left many out of those line ups.

Just wanted to point out, chevy never made a 301. That was a pontiac engine.

They did, however, make both a 262 (1975 only) and a 267 (1979-81 I believe) which, yes, were both awful.

Ah, also the 307, the 283's horrid replacement.

I will now go away... nice Squiers, folks. Now i have this urge to go get one, meh.

The 1969 Green w/White racing stripes Camaros w/4 wheel disc and C/R manual trans had a factory 301. I owned one of the prototypes from Connel Chevrolet in Costa Mesa when they first were getting an 'appeal-test' in SoCal.

Also - many 1957 283s were actually 301s from the factory, the result of core-pitting and subsequent reboring .125" over to save the block - and it wasn't advertised.

Back on topic: I've never seen a five string backwards bass before. I guess they certainly exist - the proof is here on the post - but it just looks odd. Nice, but odd.

You should watch a left-handed person write. :D

Does this count?

New bridge (Schaller 2000), new pickguard (pearl, from Jeanie's), new tuners (Hipshot Clover Key Ultralite), new strings :D (Black Nylon Tapewound ETB92).

And after mounting everything, a set-up by someone who really knows something about this: about each second fret had to be levelled at the treble side...

Amazing bass now, for sure!

I just got into the Squier game with a '70s vintage modified jazz....
I love it so far, but I'm feeling like it could be better with some easy alterations. Looking to upgrade the DD p'ups/pots...can anyone suggest p'ups they upgraded with that made a marked improvement in the overall tone?

My Squier VM V just arrived yesterday. I already popped in Fender SCN pickups and an Audere JZ3 preamp and set the string height. So far, it sounds ALOT like my 2011 MIA Jazz Deluxe V and about 1-1.5lbs heavier. They are both strung with Fender 7250 strings. It's a player for sure! I also have a 2008 MIA Deluxe, and it's a whole different beast.

edit: BTW, I could have left the stock components in and been very happy as well! These Vintage Modified's are well worth the money.

I've seen and heard this bass in person. Very cool!
