Tricked Out Squier Club

I knew the can of worms would be opened... And like SurferJoe46 says, there are a lot of ways to know it is a Squier.

The 11th screw in the middle is missing as I don't plan to drill it.
The Duncan Designed Pickups.
The routing.
The neck finish.
The trussrod access at the top of the neck and not at the heel.
The blocked & bound stuff is painted not incrusted.
And the list goes on...

Alright, let's point something out. I'm not trying to fool anyone, rip anyone off as I WILL NEVER SELL this bass. And if know a little about Fender instruments you can tell by miles it is not a "Fender", but a "tricked out" Squier VM.

Anyway as this is the endless "Fender topic" here on TalkBass I won't write more about that.

Thanks for the comments though... :D

Mostly right - a B+ for accuracy and you stated a couple of things that I left out as obvious - but this:::

The blocked & bound stuff is painted not incrusted.

Is 100% wrong. The Squier is just as inlaid as the Fender. 'Encrusted' won't work here though - interesting semantics.

The p'ups, OTOH, can and DO get changed by people looking for 'their sound' all the time - so I don't hold much faith in original-verses-replacements, since I don't buy used gear anyway.

But that's just me, and I feel that you have every right in this world to do as you see fit to your bass. I would. I do. No foul at all.

Play on, McDuff!

Well this all got "deeper than necessary", but then someone went there!... :eyebrow:

Anyway the first point was just a note about it being an "honest Squier" I think. Now, we know that some feel queasy about the Squier thing in front of an audience- I've felt it too and considered such a face-lift. But we have our reasons for the mods we do, and I've taken my deep rash of acid for modding stuff before (I won't tell you what)!

Have fun with your bass, make it what makes you happy! It's what we do, right?

I am thinking of doing the same to my 2 Squiers but I have full intention of leaving obvious signs it is a Squier. 1. Not changing the neck plate 2. not having fender logos on the tuners and leaving the affinity logo on the p neck and the licenced by fender logo on the vm neck. 3. leaving the Serial numbers intact.

My only reason for wanting to do this to is the squeemish "You play a Squier thing" as well

let your playing do the talking, dont let the name on the headstock say it for you.

as mentioned quite a few times on here and I know for sure on mine since ones not sitting quite flush, those blocks ain't painted

Yeah, don't get me wrong, it looks awesome! And would be totally tempted to do the same thing :) I just think you would have to be honest when selling it.

The only ones that can't tell, are the ones that wouldn't be in the market for a bass.

I like the analogy about SS emblems on the grills of almost every Chevelle, Nova, Camaro and El Camino I see. I know half of those Chevelles aint really big blocks, and the other half aint even Chevelles. Still cooler than seeing "289" on the side.
