Never played and tried, but just looked at it and read the specs. Could be a great sounding instrument, different sound. Something special.

tried an ibanez SRH500 today...

Cool looking bass. I find myself thinking that it would have been really cool had they found a way to hide the 2 controls somewhere else other than on the top to complete the minimalist look.
I have the SRH505F that I got from Sweetwater last year. I used it last week to record a couple tracks on a project I'm involved with. Both the songwriter and producer called to tell me how great it sounded.
well, we went back to guitar center so i could spend a little more quality time playing the bass, and i'm very disappointed. in my normal playing position, the contour is just ending toward the neck, and the soft V of it pushes directly into my wrist. it didn't hurt after 20 minutes, but it seems like a great way to end up with wrist damage. darn it.
we're talking about buying a used one later so my husband can make me a similar bass using the SRH500's electronics and neck and a body that's shaped more like the SR30TH4II, which is even lighter than the SRH500.
i thought about cutting into the area that rises up from the contour, but i have 2 concerns - is there enough wood to keep from going through it, and obviously it will destroy any resale value. maybe we'll go back and look again and see if we can tell whether the wood is deep enough to cut away that part without compromising the bass.

Just got the news that they are stopping production of the SRH500. Big discount in the near future.
not really. i went to GC expecting to reinforce how much i liked the bass, which would lead to buying one.
believe me, i want it. i REALLY want it. i really REALLY want it. but i value my wrist...
a big discount would do it. i could always play it less

You made the right decision I'm with you on the comfort
maybe the hypnotizing frog is working, but after checking out what seems to be a cad drawing of the bass on ibanez, it appears that we could remove that corner at the top of the contour so it's smooth and follows the body. yes, that will really hurt resale and we don't have the skill to make that area match the finish exactly, but i'm sort of here -
buy the bass and play it ever day for a month.
if i still love it, my husband will do the surgery on the bass so it doesn't press into my wrist. otherwise i can return it and pay for shipping or keep it and figure it out from there. i already have some wrist damage, so i'd have to be careful, but it didn't hurt on either day at GC, so while it would be a problem over time, it's not an immediate problem...

lol! I have the SRH505 - and I LOVE the tone. I bought it used off the GC site for a stupid cheap price - like I don't think they knew what they were doing (shocker...) I have resolved myself to the fact that I'm not super happy with how it cuts through in my full bands gigs - but for acoustic trios, etc - it's going to be amazing. Congrats!!!
When I played the fretless version through the Rumble 500, I thought the same thing.
ah, so it's not just me.
so far i've loved how every bass sounds through my LH500/GK112 neo ii, but if i don't, i'll pick up a rumble.
