Triple Bucker 4 string build

I mentioned this in another thread but my wife deleted all my photos on accident and I've been trying to recover them but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I've made progress and the body is pretty much done until I get the neck done, I'll update with pics tonight. That said I haven't worked on it lately as I've been distracted by a quick build, and a couple of EUB designs for future projects.

Here's some progress pics of the body. I'm really liking how the layers reveal, I found a couple knots but they aren't to bad, I also got a lot of the tearout on the edges taken out, I'm probably still going to do a tinted clear around the outside so I don't have any problems with any glue not taking the dye.

Something else that's been occupying my time is mint tin microphones, I was hoping to be able to use them to record my acoustic CBGs but it's not sensitive enough for that, it works great for amplifying lo-fi vox and my Electric CBG through my mini amp into my big bass amp. I still don't have a recording interface so no recordings yet.

Yeah.... I'm, uh, gonna have to agree with this, definitely going to make a move for second of the second here... The lines and all, they're all first rate...
But, um... I am going to have to ask you to fill out some paperwork on this... shouldn't be more than 4 or 12 forms... You can take all the time you need, but, uhm... I kinda have a thing later, so, you know, if you could....

Sorry for not updating in a while, Life has gotten busy, I've started school so I'm working evenings and I have homework occupying my time. I'm going through a welding and fabricating program at my local community college and while it's time consuming it does have its perks like access to a bunch of tools I would have no chance of being able to use otherwise including a laser cutting table which I'll be using next fall or winter to cut top and back plates for a set of aluminum builds and being able to make essentially every piece of hardware I need for them, bridge, headpiece, custom pickup rings, headless tuners, knobs, cavity cover, and the only thing I'll have to buy other then material is electronics stuff, more on that after the break.

From Left to Right we have an active piezo setup with a side mounted pre, next a 30k Artec Mubucker with series/parallel switching and passive volume tone, and lastly a pair of 15k strat rails with a custom mounting ring to turn it into a 30k quadbucker then series/parallel switching and passive volme tone. So the two Mags will be pretty muddy but it will be interesting to see how they compare to each other given the differing pickup styles, the piezo is also going to be interesting I'm not sure how much resonance I'm going to have given the fairly stiff frame and hopefully the wooden bridge will tame the twang a little bit.

Enough about what's happening next year, tonight I got the second neck blank glued up and its sitting in clamps and I started on a case. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to pull the neck out of clamps and clean it up and maybe do a rough shaping but we'll see.

Thanks, I'm not the first one to do an aluminum bass, Normandy did before me on The Electric side and G.A. Pfretzschner among others on the DB side. It turns out that one of my instructors actually worked with Normandy so I'll be able to pick his brain on workflow stuff if anything comes up.

Now because I have 5 basses lined up I should probably mention something about a time line, I should be able to finish, at least the building maybe not the finishing, of this one this winter. Then over the spring, and summer the two EUBs will get built and because I'll be doing a lot of work at school for the MudBuds in the fall anything that's left over should be able to be done in the evenings.

Edit: I have one sticking point on the Mudbucker bass I'm not sure how deep the pickup needs to be routed, I started a thread last week about it but I haven't gotten any replies, Mudbucker Routing Depth?

I don't have the pickup and I don't want to buy one until I know that it will work, I might have to though. The problem is that I am planning on using 2 1"x3" rectangular tubes for the main beam and I only have 7/8" of depth without having to cut the lower rectangular tube which I don't want to have to do, I could also go up to a 1.5"x3" tube but that brings it up to 2.5" thick and I might have to do some arching, I have time to figure that out down the line though.
