Double Bass Troll Ribbon Mic

Have you sent the Troll signal to PA or FOH from your amp?
I've got a phantom switch on my amp so If I we're to do that, presumably the FOH wouldn't need to switch phantom power on?

The Troll should not see phantom power, however if your amp is providing the phantom for a FEThead(or equivalent) then just send your DI out to the FOH/PA.

No, the AI heads have enough gain to be used by themselves- no need for a Fethead, but it's something you really should consider having, if for no other reason, to protect the Troll from phantom power when you use it elsewhere.

I have a Fethead that I use if I'm going straight into FOH. They make a HUGE difference in the gain, I think they advertise 20 (ish) decibels of clean gain.
I believe it.

FWIW- Fetheads are fun to play with. If/when you get one, try it on a dynamic mic!

Is this through an amp or FOH? Seems strange to use the fethead and then pad the input.

If this is through an amp, what's the setup?

When I had an AI Clarus, I ran the Troll straight in without phantom.

For FOH/PA type situations, I always use the FEThead as a default starting point and work from there. All I tell the sound person is it's a mic, the signal is hot and I need phantom power. The ensuing conversation determines how we proceed.

A lot of sound people around here have heard of and used the Troll, Brandon lives in Berkeley which is about 60 miles from me and I've done a ton of gigs with it in the greater SF bay area and I'm not the only guy around here using one.

The Troll mic reminds me of the LCM100 (SD systems) I used to own.. Is there really a resemblance?

Can't find the technical specs of the mic.... (the LCM100)
I'm asking, because that mic didn't work out for me, extremely whooly and lacking definition.

According to what I was able to find, it is not similar. The LCM100 is a condenser mic whereas the Troll is a ribbon mic. These are two very different ways of capturing vibration, each with their own pros and cons. I would say some of the magic of the Troll is owed to its ribbon nature.
