Double Bass Troll Ribbon Mic

I received my Troll Mic a couple of days ago and I'm glad that I ordered a Fethead as well. Straight into the EA Doubler I had to crank both gain and volume to get an audible signal. At that volume there was quite a bit of hiss and I would have been lost in the mix if I had to jam with anyone.

I plugged in the Fethead and turned on the phantom power on my amp and was very impressed by sound that I got on my first try without any tweaking at all. After reading through the threads here and checking out the videos on the Troll Mic website, I got the mic positioned well and started blending it with a couple of pickups to see what I like best.

My current setup is blending troll mic/realist lifeline 60/40. on a hybrid shen with obligatos over spiro mits. No preamp, a sprinkle of reverb. The Pizz has a great old school quality and the arco is warm and very natural/woody and is very close to a match in volume to pizz.

I had a jam last night and got compliments on my tone.

I would hesitate to mount anything that heavy on my tailpiece.

I don't disagree that mounting something on your tailpiece could have an effect on the acoustic timbre and response of your bass, but is easily removable when you don't need it, and certainly won't DAMAGE the instrument. For some, it's a reasonable compromise to get consistent amplified sound. For others, a different option is more palatable to them.

This seems a nice accessory for mic users:

I have an H-Clamp so I don't need it, but I'd probably buy this otherwise. (although I don't use a mic at the moment)
I've been thinking about adding a mic for the FOH for years and the H-clamp seems like the most consistent way to keep the mic in a sweet spot as opposed to that goose neck. Just my thoughts. I have pretty bad ADD, and the less I have to fuss with my setup, the better.

The H-Clamp is a superior unit, for sure - but it's also about 3x the price. The BassOnStage was added as a lower cost, low-stress alternative, mostly for those folks who aren't as picky but need to amplify simply.

I'm experiencing a strange noise from The Troll when I'm using it with the H-Clamp.
The weird thing is, it isn't always audible so I'm wondering if it's the microphone picking up a resonance from the clamp...?

I was recording today and the sound was very audible at the start of pretty much every note.

You could try putting out in front of the bass on a regular mic stand, if the mic isn't completely isolated (some type of shock mount) from the bass, you'll get some interaction.
FWIW, I've recorded often with the Troll... sometimes on the bass, sometimes on a stand out front, it is almost always one of the mics in the mix.
