Trouble learning songs

Familiarize yourself with your fingerboard and dissect the song slowly. Patience is the key.

Also, repetition is your friend. Get a program where you can loop and slow down songs (Audacity, Transcribe...etc). Loop sections of the songs and keep working on it one section at a time. Most songs have sections that repeat throughout the song. Once you learn that section, you just play the same thing when that motif repeats.

Alot of songs, you'll find, that after you learn 3-4 parts you got the whole song.

This is after I learned scales,arpeggios, etc, Dr. Spin...The message I was attempting to convey is to learn as much as you can, learning is good, but when it's time to play it shouldn't sound like a music lesson. It should be time to play. As a matter of fact, 'chasin' notes' is what people do in my estimation, when they knew too much theory...they go after the 'complex' sound instead of 'good'...

By all means, learn-learn-practice-learn, but if you play major scales over changes when it's your turn to solo, it will get you far less gigs than sounding good..

Hunting and pecking will only confuse and lengthen learning a song and or the bass. You have to have a simple idea of the notes /chords and the fretboard to navigate around. I'm not saying be a mindless theory zombie and only follow structure but you have to know where to put thee fingers on what chord and how to walk, fill etc on the chord or mode. You don't want to be a root player only or hunting around sounding any note that sounds decent.

The OP want to know to learn songs quickly. I learned close to 40 songs in two weeks when I was fairly new to bass with a Tascam bass trainer the chord sheets a decent ear and practice. This method works and has never let me down. Huntin and pectin just don't work in my world.

Cool ,have family a half hour north ,,,hope to get back down there next year if airfair isn't crazy.
