Troubleshooting something totally bizarre

Does it do it regardless of where the speakers are postioned (stacked vs. side by side)? I've noticed some odd ball things when I run three 2x15's standing side by side as opposed to just two. Sometimes depending on the room, three just doesn't sound "right" - but two of them will sound golden.
yep. i've done all that. anyway, i'm fine now and convinced there's nothing wrong with the rig.

Oh. That's different. Never mind.

Quite an interesting problem.

I never thought to test with a different instrument---none of us did.

I suspect the bass puts out a ton of low end---possibly some subsonic stuff---and when you're driving a four-ohm load, the amp just can't handle the signal. With an eight-ohm load, the amp doesn't have to supply as much current to the cabs.

Those cabs may be lower in impedance at the offending frequencies than your other cabs, which causes the heavy current draw.

interesting rick...i think you are most likely right on the money. i'm still trying to figure out this tech stuff, and i realize i only have it figured out enough to screw stuff up ;) the bass never sounded like it has a lot of lows to me, but it's possible i'm not hearing it due to my thing for sealed cabs, plus it's just not that easy for me to hear it out of a band context. the pickups are qp's, though, so i think it's entirely possible.

thanks buddy...good to hear from you!
