Truth be told...

Ok, am I missing some sarcasm here? Peavey owning TE is a positive influence? I always thought that Peavey was more entry level stuff for the most part, and TE was more on the "boutique amp" end of things. Is Gibson so bad that Peavey is a step up? Or is everyone saying Peavey makes top end stuff now? I admit I haven't used Peavey for years, since a 1-15" combo amp. I got it cause it was cheap, not because it was state of the art. Maybe times have changed....

Maybe I'm a gear snob. But I'm not trading in my Eden preamp, Crown K1 power amp, EA cabs for anything Peavey related anytime soon...

Yes, Peavey has bought trace. Yes, it is a step up. Gibson sucks! Gibson tried to change the way Trace was doing things and as you well know, it didn't work.

If you read the entire post by Microbass you would also know that Clive Button and some of the other old school Trace engineers are back. Put that together with Peavey letting Trace run as an independent company and I would say its a winning combo.

Peavey durability combined with Trace engineering could amount to some very nice stuff. Maybe the Trace Elliot influence will leak into Peavey rather than Peavey being incorporated into Trace. It could be beneficial to both companies.

That seems to be the case since Peavey bought Crest, IMO.

I've always thought Peavy made quality stuff ecspecially for the buck, and yes Gibson has enough problems with there own quality contol, God forbid they touch any decent company. Can you imagine if they bought Ken Smith? then we get all these cute "Smithy Pro" basses from Korea!! :crying: My only beef with Peavy is Hartley can appear to be an Arrogant A*% at times with a kinda of a "my way is the best and only way" attitude. I think some of there products (ecspecially basses) would benefit greatly from outsourcing some parts (pickups-pres, etc.). But there quality to price ratio has always been exceptional and if you can find some of the old AMR stuff, you are talking about some excellent studio gear!

If they can get Trace sound and Peavey reliability and pricing, they'll have a real winner for sure!

The peavey stuff has always been some of the toughest, most reliable gear out there ... but the sound has been questionable on many of the products (I've heard a few that were quite good though, like the classic 50 guitar amp and the 410TX).

No offense, but the Korean Toby Pro basses are decent for the money (I own 2). Most peoples beef with Gibson made Tobias basses are the US made series, which are (IMO) an overpriced waste of wood. My personal beef with Gibson/TE is that they quit making bass amps and cabs. It's all acoustic guitar amps now. And in regards to the "cute Smithy Pro basses from Korea"... those are called KSD (which also happen to be great basses for the money).
I'm just pumped that this Peavey venture with TE might (keeping fingers crossed) bring back their bass amps/cabs.
Hell, imagine if Peavey bought the Tobias name, too. Maybe they can make some real US Tobias basses like back in the old Mike T. days! ;)

i'd just like to point out that TE will be run independantly; peavey own the name, but will not contribute anything towards design and management. Peavey will be funding and distributing.

i can see Peavey being a bad influence on many people.

personally, i like Peavey. the "latest" gear I've used is all at least a good few years of age, but its durable, and sounds good; at least for that one tone. not very versaitile.

but this isn't peavey, mate, this is TRACE.

:)

OK, here is some more news.

I contacted Clive Button (the original engineer of TE) via e-mail. Here is what he had to say:
E-mail from Clive Button
Hi Kelly,

From what I have heard 'Peavey' now own Trace Elliot.
I am not involved, nor would I want to be involved in this enterprise.
You may have heard a 'Clive' mentioned in association with Trace.
This would be Clive Roberts, not somebody I would wish to be associated with either.
Thankyou for your vote of confidence in my work for the old TE i.e. using the products that I designed.
I hope that the integrity of the product is as high a priority for the new company as it was over the many years that I was the only designer.

Regards
Clive Button
:hmm: Who is actually heading the new project?

Well Microbass says the info he got was Clive Roberts is heading it. That doesn't sit well with me. He was president of TE while Gibson owned the company.

I'm getting a bad feeling all over again. :help:

Clive was the MD when TE was bought over in 92, was that to Hartly? I can't remember...

He worked on the SMX range of equipment and V-series, and he's been fighting for the past few years to re-establish Trace without Gibson; hence the move to Peavey...

That's what I was told today.
Frankly, I am still going to be excited no matter who's in charge of the TE products; if they suck - they suck; I won't buy it. The designers will be the ones who have to pay if that's the case. :)

Clive Button is doing freelance consulting according to his website Invalid Link Removed. He has even worked with Ashdown to some degree.

Tombowlus, since you like spending money on gear, check out this page:Invalid Link Removed. He will custom build anything you want!

EDIT: Microbass, check out Clive's site. He shows you which products he designed.

I wonder if he would offer a "group discount" on Hexa Valve heads? Or better yet, Octa Vavle heads! :D :bassist:
