trying to get that vintage sound

I'm messing around with my first bass I ever had, that basic Squire P bass.

I recently decided to refinish the body with a friend, and I'm trying to figure out which pickups would work best. I've bought villex before for a funk/rock bass I worked on and I loved them SOOO much. I'm trying to figure out if I should stick with what I know and love or try something new. I'm really looking for something with a really vintage round sound that covers a lot of low end and can still push out a bit of growl. Any suggestions?

Seymour Duncan SPB-1 .... about as close sounding to my 1964 P Basses pickups as I've found. Those pups and a set of flats and it's vintage tone heaven. Roll back your tone know a touch for even more fatness.

Of course this also depends on your definition of "vintage sound".... But for what you mentioned, the SPB-1's and flats should get you in the neighborhood.

The Allparts necks are very good if you are looking for a vintage style neck. USA Custom makes excellent necks as well...a bit lighter weight in general than the Allparts ones, and the truss rod is at the headstock (If I remember right)...so not a "vintage style (plus they use graphite rods for reinforcement)...but nice necks.

Either way it would be hard to go wrong.
