Hey,
So I'm finding my delay pedal on more and more all the time, and I think I need an upgrade from my current Deluxe Memory Boy. Looking around at what different companies make, there's a number of sounds and features I'd like to be able to use. But I've been unable to find one pedal that seems to do it all:
- Warm sounds, good for ambient music and swells. Dare I say analog? I'm not opposed to digitial, just skeptical of their tone. My Memory Boy does this great, in my mind.
- Tap Tempo with quarter, eighth, and triplet settings. At least those are the ones I use all the time on the Memory Boy. Especially triplet.
- A good 16th note trill sound that pops in the mix. I don't like the Memory Boy on this at all, I'm very much looking for a distinct rhythmic sound.
- A buffered mode, so that the trails stick around after the pedal is disengaged. Yet again, another reason I'd trade in my Memory Boy.
- An effects loop.
- A musical self-oscillation.
Money is an object, but I'll shell out for the right thing that is worth the dough. Analog? Digital? I'm open, but I certainly have a bias towards analog. I tried a TC Electronic Nova recently and was very unimpressed with the tone, and I've never really liked those Boss pedals a lot of people use. I've looked at a bunch of great pedals, but none seem to have everything:
- The Deluxe Memory Man seems like it would do much better with rhythmic delays than the Memory Boy, but yet again, no buffer.
- The JHS Panther is even cooler, cause you have a footswitch to engage or disengage the loop, which is sweet, and that business of slaving other tap tempo pedals, but again, no buffer.
- The Moog MF-104 is unbelievable looking, and being able to tap in modulation times is sweet. It's also damn expensive, and doesn't come with the ability to tap in subdivisions, though it seems that you could do it with something called a MIDI clock. I'm game, except I have no idea how to use on of these, and I can't seem to find good info on it, plus that's even more money I have to shell out.
- The Strymon El Capistan and Brigadier both look awesome, but have no effects loop in either. Is there a way to create one? I've used both reverb and distortion in the loop, are the onboard effects on either of these good substitutes? I really specific like the effects loop for leaving my dry signal alone, I am a bass player after all.
- The Diamond Memory Lane 2. Lacks triplet subdivision and effects loop.
- Empress Tape Echo, seems incredible, and great in price, but again no loop.
Maybe one of these will do, and I just need to get a simple mod to get the whole package.

Custom Tbird with three passive wilkinson pickups > Korg Pitchblack > Aguilar TLC > MXR 10 band > EHX Deluxe Bass Big Muff > Behringer Slow Motion > EHX Deluxe Memory Boy > Biyang Tri-verb ( in stereo, one channel in the Memory Boy's Loop with the other channel in the loop of a bypass looper ) > Traynor YBA-200
