I went with the concert tuba cos it's playable in house easier than a sousaphone but I loved played the ol sousaphone.
Yeah great for you guys if it got you chicks, I guess a girl playing this big brass horn around scared off the guys. *sigh*
I can at least say I was Trabuco Hills High FIRST girl tuba player.
I thought *sousaphone* was the proper term for *tuba*
No?
Edit: From wiki- 'A sousaphone is a type of tuba...'
NOT to say wikipedia is the last word on anything. The Bayou Brass Band had a big dude named Chuey(sp?)on Sousaphone, if I'm not mistaken. Very funky.
If I'm not mistaken, the Sousaphone was designed to fill the role of a Tuba in a marching band (since a Tuba is not exactly easy to march with).

Contra.
Tuba. Better sound quality. to me anyway. Sousaphone is the circular one thats used in marching bands.
+1 and sousaphones have a tendancy to collect popcorn, pencils and spitwads
Friend of mine got a Nerf ball stuck in his and didn't get it out for about a week.

When i was in high school we laid one on the ground over summer break in our bandroom and in fall we found a rats nest in it with a family living on the food thrown in it from past parades.![]()

That's just wrong...![]()

i didnt know they still make these helicons, this is the marching tuba before Sousa got his hands on it.
My old Alexander CC Tuba (from Germany) had 5 valves . . . The "usual" F Tuba has 6 valves . . . from my days with the symphony orchestras ('64-'67) . . .I don't know.
Do they make a seven valve ERT or ERS?
